Hence the reason in Aug. 1971 Nixon took the dollar completely off the gold standard because our reserves had dwindled down to nothing. This, of course, created inflation as those dollars had to buy something else and entered the US outside of government. The only thing that saved us was the agreement with OPEC to create the Petro-dollar. |
