the ice crystals were thick in the air in SW Ohio, you could see them floating like dust.

pretty sure those images are of ice crystals not earthquake lights.

Are the photos even real? out of the three photos posted only one without the lights has a posting under it with a description of who took it. The others do not.

Good find!

Finland has wimpy winters compared to Ohio. The continental climate of Ohio is much harsher than Finland's.

Post pictures of this "perfectly normal" phenomenon and I might take you seriously.

Have you wintered in both places?

Licensed weather observer here and yes those are ice crystals, nothing more nothing less. Very cold weather event ice crystals are very common ask anyone from up north. You can even get ice crystals from a cloudless sky.

I don't know.

Earthquake lights are a legit phenomenon.

They are well documented.

Many people ascribed them to UFO activity or something but recently they have been labeled a geological phenomenon. I'd like to walk through those lights with an EMF detector, I bet anything they are the result of weird magnetic fields created by the deep earth movement of rocks and minerals and their interaction with the cooler rocks closer to the surface and crust.

I know that ice crystals can cause some cool light shows, but with the recent Midwestern earthquake activity and all of the booms that people have been hearing I wouldn't be surprised if these lights were one more warning of bad things to come.

I mean, I certainly don't know what people are supposed to DO about it. We don't know enough about quake prediction to know what these signals portend, just that they are likely not good.

I guess it could be ice crystals but who really knows.I have never seen anything like that.Very pretty though.I hope it doesnt mean earthquake.

Sky is clear, so don't see how snow on the ground can reflect into a single shaft of light. Earthquake sounds more plausible.

true! I missed American weather when I lived in Europe.

It isn't all that cold in Mansfield right now. Looks like the deeper cold is coming later.
