I know of crack cocaine addicts that take focalin when they can't get their drug of choice. Just get Johnny some crack and he'll be fine.

Order online?
 Quoting: Boris the Cat

Unfortunately, not an option for this. They require a physical paper script every month. The dr. can't even call it in.
 Quoting: hockeymomgonebad

Not online from your script plan....

Think!

You really can get any drug you could ever want or need online, from other countries.

If you are afraid it isn't as advertised, bring it in to your pharmacy and they can verify it for you.

I promise.

I know folks who have done this.

Before you do this, however, go to Walmart. They are a NATIONAL pharma chain and can get anything for you within 48 hours and for $4/prescription, in most cases, as long as you ask for the generic version.

As for the online thing, they may ask for a scanned version of your doctor's WRITTEN prescription, so they don't get shut down. Just send them an electronic copy they can verify. Again, you can get 48-hour delivery for a fraction of the U.S. cost.

For f*ck's sake, if Joe Blow can get valium, cock-hard meds and Cipro sent to him without a script, you can certainly get what you need on the web market at a discount price.

Last case scenario...get in your car with your kid and either drive over the border to Canada or Mexico, whichever is closer, and fill up your car with his meds before you exit for pennies on the dollar.

Of course, you can also look into proven alternative treatments for your son's condition. Might I suggest you start with earthclinic.com and go on from there?

Quit bitching and get moving.

I don't think it has anything to do with it being generic. We have been using the 10mg generic Focalin or Dexmethylphenidate for over a year now and haven't had a problem filling it until last month. Luckily, I had an extra months worth since we didn't give her the extra dose over the summer months but she definitely needs it during the school days. Will probably have to figure out something else with the doctor.

Re: No pharmacy in town can fill my son's prescription
I am about ready to lose it! We are one of the lucky few to still have pretty decent medical coverage through my husband's job. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean squat when there is nowhere to fill the prescriptions. I have called 10 pharmacies and everyone is out of stock. Told it could be weeks! We have had to go to another pharmacy several times, but this time NO ONE has any in stock and saying it could take weeks. Great..is Obamacare going to ration the drug supply should we manage to see a dr. WTH?
 Quoting: hockeymomgonebad

That's horrible. May I ask what kind it is? I don't want to sound intrusive but if you wouldn't mind.

I hesitated to post, as I have been around GLP long enough to know that I will be berated for "poisoning" my kid, but he is on Focalin for ADHD. I agree that the adhd drugs are extremely over used and probably 80% of the kids on them should not be. My son attends a school specifically for kids with Adhd, dyslexia, and other learning disorders. With these severe kids, the right medication can literally change their life. Unfortunately, with so many kids just being drugged because it's easier, now there are shortages for the medications for the ones who really do need it.

It is classified as a stimulant, So if you are in a area where they either won't fill it or are out of stock, which you mentioned earlier.

Which makes no sense to me to have to wait a week or 10 days as you stated. Reason being is I am on multiple medications, and also good friends with the pharmacy owner, his drug rep can have anything within a matter of 2 days.

My sugggestion would be to call the maker directly. A simple google search of medication name would give you the makers information, call the number and bam problem solved. Since it's the weekend, I would say stay vigilant and it could be there by monday morning, tuesday at the latest.

I actually have a very down to earth pharmacist who has told me straight up "the government is cracking down on ALL the pharmacies and is trying to make it impossible to provide certain medications for people. Controlled substances are top on the hit list and EVERYONE is out of stock".

This makes me wonder of the government is hoarding medications now like they did with ammunition and equipment.

What interested me more was the comment from the pharmacist when I said "what, they are trying to ban painkillers and stuff like that"?

He responded that the GOVERNMENT is OUT OF MONEY and is trying to squeeze every penny possible from the bog pharmacy chains. Fines are being levied, audits are being conducted, and extreme measures are being taken against ALL the big pharmacies in order to try an OBTAIN REVENUE through fines.

Take it for what it is worth. I have been on the same meds for 6 years and I see my pain management doctor FREAKING out over petty stuff and my pharmacy having major difficulty filling basic scripts.5a

With Obamacare dictating prices, many drug companies lose money on certain drugs, so they stop making them.

I work in a pharmacy and Schedule 2 narcotics(focalin) take about 5 business days to get in because they are drop shipped. Any other med I can overnight. We are always out of stock on focalin because not many people are prescribed it as opposed to adderall, ritalin, concerta etc.

Doctors can call in controlled substances..at least in New York...also just ask the doctor where to go..I had an issue filling a script and the doc told me where to go..calling pharmacies is pointless because they won't answer thinking your gonna rob me

Re: No pharmacy in town can fill my son's prescription
According to the FDA website some dosages are in short supply at this time.On backorder starting Feb due to large demand increase. New supply by mid-March 2014.Other dosages will be on back order till later in the year.

Sounds like they are just out of the med OP due to supply shortage due to more use.
I had to type in focalin shortage in the search box for it to come up since its not in the alphabetical list for some reason.

If you are in a Publix area, you can get things there that other pharmacies do not have. I had to take something for about a year and other pharmacies did not have it, nor did they care to get it FOR me.

Publix was more than happy to obtain it for me and make sure that I had it for next time and after that. Even if they did not have it now for you, they would get it and make sure they took care of it for you.

You know not all Publix stores have pharmacies, but some do. I would try them.

Its never a good idea to substitute drugs without close medical supervision. There is surprising variability among stimulants. Look at the differences between caffeine and theophylline.

[link to www.fda.gov]

FDA takes great efforts, within its legal authority, to address and prevent drug shortages, which can occur for many reasons, including manufacturing and quality problems, delays, and discontinuations. The agency works closely with manufacturers of drugs in short supply to communicate the issue and to help restore availability. FDA also works with other firms who manufacturer the same drug, asking them to increase production, if possible, in order to prevent or reduce the impact of a shortage
