funny... he says he observed the thing months by illegally turning the telescope to another direction, ( which cost much dollars)

and that the thing got bigger and bigger towards earth everu month...

Look at the dates in the video and the email is to himself...Look close..really bad acting

The preview picture it shows is over-enhanced but the actual fits file download is just the raw image with no alterations and the WCS data embedded (you can get that link here: [link to nova.astrometry.net] ).

The large object on the right side of the image is NGC 1501, a planetary nebula, which you can see labeled in the annotated astrometrically solved version in the first link. Here's the Palomar Sky Survey image of those coordinates overlaid on top:

There's a small bit of debris or defect with the Palomar plate as well as a potential asteroid, neither of which are present in my new image, but I do not see any sign of any "Nibiru." Yesterday I had sent an email to Dr. Dinerstein before I saw that Kaplan's university information had been located. She forwarded the message to him and I received an email this morning from Mr. Kaplan. He's quite a cheeky bastard. Anyway, here's what he wrote:

"I am the "Dr. Kaplan" that was in the video. I am actually a graduate student at UT and made the video as a joke for my friends while on an observing run. Unfortunately, it got picked up by the conspiracy theory crowd and went viral, so I have taken it down.

I was at the 2.7 meter Harlan J Smith telescope and was observing the planetary nebula NGC 1501. The star you see in the guide camera which I claim to be "Nibiru" is approximately 540 arcseconds north of NGC 1501 (see attached finder chart).

As I suspected, he was using the 2.7 meter Harlan J Smith telescope, and he was observing NGC 1501. He didn't intend for the video to get out beyond his circle of friends, but that was rather short sighted. He sent me this finder chart for the autoguide camera with the dreaded "Nibiru" he points out in the video located in the middle:

You can see it's the same exact star field as in the video when he points out "Nibiru." With the coordinates and image orientation in hand I was easily able to overlay it back onto my image from last night:

His view was mirrored horizontally from my view, but the stars are all a match. None of these stars are "rogue planets" traveling through our solar system. You can see that all those stars were there years ago in the Palomar Sky Survey image which I previously overlaid with my image for comparison:

A "rogue planet" would move dramatically between those images, even if it were "coming right at us." It's just a normal star.
