If you have a heart condition, and you smoke weed, then yes, it could kill you from rapid heart rate. This is highly unlikely, but could happen. Heart valve defects, or grossly clogged arteries could contribute to a heart attack under the pressure weed puts on the cardiovascular system. So yes, weed can kill you.

No actually.. i dont think so.. although marijuana can increase heart palpitations, sometimes causing anxiety, this is no more so than a person jumping out an scaring another. and even those with weak hearts can generally withstand such events. Otherwise, the cause of death is a bad heart, not the marijuana (or practical joker as in my analogy).

To answer my own question, a lack of oxygen to the brain. But, what causes that?

Swelling of brain tissue cutting off blood flow through the many capillaries in the brain.

This exact same condition is one which occurs during some types of strokes.

Unless you can show that marijuana does not lead to or can't lead to a stroke, you should probably rethink how "safe" it really is.

And since marijuana can induce a stroke it is conceivable that it can also lead to death.

Looks like more thorough and sufficient research is needed before the medical community can draw any concrete conclusions. They need to control for tobacco use (which they didn't) and should also explore the effects of other forms of ingestion of cannabis (vaporizing, edibles, topical oils, etc).
