i saw a similar video where a guy simply used some seran wrap with a few ounces of water inside, tied it like a balloon and lit his kindling with the magnified sun-beam...

that is a nice set but a bit complicated for my taste.

I know that it can be done with a transparent water bottle. Haven't seen this particular vid & marked it for later.

How to make Sodium Metal:

I think the shape of the object helps with the effect of magnitude of the light but I'm sure it can be done with other shaped objects but I would have thought that a sphere shape is genuinely a good way to go

There are some Torches you can get that do get amazingly hot though that you could use directly to start s fire like builders lamps for example

Gee a magnifying glass or a pair of eyeglasses are so much more effective at this and easier to transport.

PS: If the suns behind the clouds then good luck using any of these methods.

I agree its a matter of inconvenience but none the less its handy for people to know other methods I mean what you going to when your flint goes or your wick frays ?
