I believe there are probably that many unemployed, I just don't believe anyone actually did a "study" to figure it out.

I actually find this statistic fairly surprising. I was in Chicago a couple months back and it seemed to me that almost every fast-food worker in the city was black. There is a shocking disconnect in Chicago between the people who are shopping (mostly white and asian) and those who running the cash register.

I have visited friends and relatives in Chicago many times over the past few years. I have found that the young urban blacks behave in such a tribal and often threatening way that no business owner would dare employ the hostile little shits for fear that they would attack some of his customers with or without provocation - thus setting the business owner up for a huge liability suit, for which he would have little, if any, grounds on which to defend himself. Settlements in such cases frequently go up to several times the maximum insurance policy money available as a way to insure that the owner is punished as well as his insurer.

That’s what employing these poor black youths gets you. It can put you out of business, and wind the owner up in bankruptcy court (or worse, he could be found criminally negligent for hiring such a kid and face charges as a accomplice dThese kids are, for the most part, not employable, and totally uneducated. Most do not care. They are content to sell drugs, pimp whores and sleep all day and commit petty crimes at night - if they are not busy robbing people who happen to pass by them on the streets.

And that's the problem. People who need food, housing, medical care, etc. but are contributing far less than they take from the system and far less than they are capable of.

If they want to have irresponsible sex they should have to pay for it. It's no one else's burden, or shouldn't be.

I don't deny there is a serious unemployment problem - no offense to OP - however this article leaves many questions.

1. 16-19 How many are actually looking for employment? I didn't see that in the article unless I missed it.
This is an important piece of information.

2. Also - mention is made of 600,000 less jobs in Chicago since 2000. Were most of these jobs at the level of a 16-19 year old skill level? Is that why it's mentioned?

3. It is mentioned though that one of the reasons these 16-19 year olds can't get jobs is because older people who are now unemployed are scooping jobs up in desperation. Maybe an article should be written on this...and the missing jobs 600,000 jobs since 2000, no matter their color or age - it seems this was the cascading effect/source

4. Also mentioned is that the above said jobs being scoooped up are classified such as Newspaper delivery and Burger flipping that 16 to 19 year olds would have occupied.
So I guess this explains point number 2...

5. The lucky Dvante King found 2 part time on/off jobs earning less than a thousand a year. Well..This is pretty much the same as it was when I was his age then. Federal Summer Program job 2.90 an hour. 2.5 months with taxes taken out.

I'm all for getting this shit under control - and I love numbers - data - I live it - but the data has two sides and Media loves to use it. It's a very effective leading tool.
