I just keep gaining weight which is making my injuries worse. The fact that I am unable to work right now and living on what is cheapest to eat (carbs) is compounding the problem and making things worse. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43500689 Please is there someone kind enough to give me some REAL advice? Cutting down is not working and I can not burn it off with exercise. I am terrified of being completely bed-ridden. Please don't give me cruel and heartless answers. I have enough problems right now without some soul-less person making me feel worse. if youre 50+ lbs over weight, have your dr approve you for a gastric bypass political correctness is a doctrine.... fostered by a delusional, illogical minority...... and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media; which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 50193125 Canada 02/03/2014 08:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm so sorry and my heart goes out to you during this difficult time in your life. I'm giving you a big virtual HUG right now. The difficult part about being in a situation like yours is the vicious cycle you can get in. You're overweight so you eat, because eating provides some type of comfort, but eating for comfort makes your problem worse because it makes you fatter. Are you unable to do anything physical? Are you bedridden now? Because although you're not able to run a marathon or go skydiving, if you have at least a little mobility you can probably move your body enough to have it make a difference. And you drop a few pounds by diet alone, it's been done thousands of times by all walks of people. Many people began losing weight by diet alone and then, after eating right, found they had the energy to exercise. Here are my recommendations: 1. Please begin eating WELL. Fill yourself up on veggies before you eat any meal, and if you're snacking, snack on veggies and other healthy food. There is no quick fix, and you MUST stop your love affair with bad food right NOW in order to get on track. 2. Start with ANY exercise you can muster. If you're in bed, then move your legs. Try to move your arms and lift a 5 lb bag of flour. Use any household items you can use to give you resistance. Walk up and down the stairs as many times as you can. 3. Talk to your doctor. Before you do anything, tell your doctor of your concerns, tell them how depressed and frustrated and sad you are about the weight and see if there is anything they can do to help. 4. And finally, food is not your lover, it's your fuel. You need to change your relationship with food, and view it as what it is. This takes work and time tho and usually comes around after you begin with the three steps above. Sending you hugs, and light and love. Everything is going to be ok. |

No joke, if you think about exercising it has some effect on the body. You can look it up. "The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title." Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. - H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women |

If possible - Burn calories - step in place, or from side to side. get hand weights and use then in a seated position. Raise and lower legs in a seated position. There are many ways to bring movement into your day and burn calories and strengthen muscles. Good luck and keep trying. |

Medications can complicate this issue also, some will cause weight gain. Are you in pain? Will you recover with time and physical therapy? Think of each day as a new beginning, it's the only way to manage a disability. So if you mess up with your eating and excersize, don't give up. Just keep starting the journey again each day. Slowly and with time you will see the benefits. Emotional support is also vital. If you've never tried therapy before it might be helpful now. You have to mourn the vitality you lost. It's OK to pity party and have a good fit, but then get up that next day and remember its once again the first day of a new journey. |

If you can get around and go places, see if any local facilities have hydro therapy. In my town, the local hospital has a pool were you can have therapy and exercise sessions. Maybe a local YMCA or Salvation Army or something. Anonymous Coward User ID: 51954268 United States 02/03/2014 08:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, ask your doctor if he can give you a prescription for an appetite suppressant. Phentermine will take your appetite away, I don't know if it's still on the market, but it's prescription only and you have to talk to your doctor about it and ask him. If you can't excersise, the only other way to loose weight is to drastically cut your calories and the only way to do this without an incredible mental battle every day is an appetite suppressant. The over the counter ones are not good, and people have died taking those, so be sure to talk to your doctor about it and don't try to do it on your own. I don't know if you're on other kinds of medications that would interact with a suppressant, so you have to consult with your doctor first and get him to help you with this battle and pick the one that would work best for you. There are options out there for you. |

No joke, if you think about exercising it has some effect on the body. You can look it up. Quoting: Face Palmer Do you remember those infomercials com the 90s about breathing your way thin? It was actually based on scientific research that muscle contraction (think flexing your butt cheeks, arms, sucking in your stomach) coupled with deep oxygenation of tissues works to speed up metabolism and build muscle. In the lab it was done with a tens machine and oxygen supplementation but in theory you could do it if you could breathe deeply enough... But you'd have to be able use most of your lung capacity - which is harder than it sounds. Free divers take years to build up to this point... Research it OP - maybe a little can help? Edit to add: OP I see you're in a wheelchair. Well seriously you need to start working on that lung capacity issue now - might even be part of your problem. Lung capacity decreases exponentially when you're chair bound - it's why physical therapy focuses so much on retaining as much as possible... Talk to your PT about excercises - you might be worse off than you think in this area.
