No not a drunk but very very self centered, doesn't give a shit about me ( her daughters feelings). Lies about things like she told everyone that I won;t let her see her grandson, when in fact the truth is I have asked her many many times to come see us and she wont, she lives 45 minutes away. She hasn't seen her grandson who is handicapped in over 4 yrs.

We owe no loyalty to someone just because they are blood. Put these people out of your life and out of your mind. If they want a relationship with you and your child let them earn it. I know it is easier said than done but it is all you can do with people like that. You just forgive them then forget them.

You need to take responsibility for your life and not blame how you feel on others. That only makes you a narcissist yourself. You need to set boundaries and stop pointing fingers after that.

Or, you could invite the entire familv for a group therapy session with a family counselor or minister. A cookout with shooting also works well.

Emotionally unhinged parents cause more damage to their offspring than you would care to believe. Yes, it's appropriate to take responsibility for your life, but easier said than done when you are so screwed up that you can't function normally.

Sounds like you have been the chosen family scapegoat to be painted black but she will choose a new target if you are now out of the picture. In time your sibs and family members may wake up and see her for who she really is but that is up to them, nothing you can do about that for now except get on with your own life. It is hugely painful to have a narcissist mother. If you cant be supportive please shut your mouth, refrain from typing, and leave the thread.

Cut out the cancer and move on. My family did this and we are all better off for it.
