Lol, the 'residents' aren't protesting much of anything. It's the race baiting activists/politicians who are opposed to Trader Joe's moving in, fearing they might might lose control of this oppressed community.

And these race pimps are explicit in admitting it is absolutely about race, saying they would be opposed to any project that doesn't solely benefit blacks. Solely means only, exclusively, without regard to others. Don't get it twisted.

Raising the rent would not be the end of the world if those long time residents you pretend to care about were willing to accept the new jobs that would be brought with the project. But the race pimps would rather they remain on government handouts so they can keep claiming they're oppressed.

Yes and I think this is what has so many whites fed up. When the average black speaks it is always about what they have to do for other blacks...it is never about doing for the country or other Americans of other races.

They "work" towards bettering blacks and then they expect everyone else to do the same...

Imagine if whites went around talking about what we have to do for the unemployed whites, improving white neighborhoods (yes, I know we are not allowed to have "white" neighborhoods!), or electing white politicians?

In Chicago during the late 60's the blacks decided to torch the Madison Ave retailers because they were jealous of the Jewish business owners. The Jewish owners relocated their businesses to the Northern suburbs. The burned out store fronts sat empty for almost 30 years.

Not just Jewish, but Koreans and other industrious Asian have been targets. but did you see the photo of the armed Asians standing on the rooftop of their store in a recent disturbance. They learned.

I read the original article (and attempted to reply the day this was posted but got caught up in a global ban), and it does't say anything about "too many whites". That was Ben Swans spin on the story, which is still very worthy of discussion.

I had to Google 'gentrification' - though I know it's rather obvious I wanted to see how that term related to the article I read.

So the leaders are concerned with the 'gentrification' of their neighborhood. At first I was sympathetic when I read the Wiki version of 'gentrification'. I was all "Awww..." displacing the poor.

But, when I considered it further it occurred to me that these neighborhoods are most likely not only filled with 'good poor people". They're filled with gangs, addicts, users of the system (whether black or white, as my niece is one of them and we're white). "Poor" is just a heartfelt term to tug on your heartstrings.

If you read the article you see the jobs and revenue it would generate. Why wouldn't any poor section of town welcome job opportunities?

Trader Joe's did the honorable thing and said they wouldn't build there if the people/city didn't want it. I personally think that's a poor decision on the cities part.

What I can't help but wonder is what is it called (opposite of gentrification) when a good upstanding neighborhood is infiltrated by gangs, addicts, and "the poor" forcing the middle class out of their neighborhoods?

This seems to be a Catch-22 discussion in so many ways.

Hi quality food at decent prices. No wonder they do not want to allow them into a black area. As long as locals can profiteer by selling them crap at inflated prices - they do not want the blacks to become educated about what is good and bad food and what are good vs high prices.
