Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47736581 Also, before I posted this thread, I went to the search engine here on GLP and there were only two threads on this subject, neither of which actually described what was happening at all. The USA top stories the past week or so have been whether or not Woody Allen actually molested/raped under aged girls and something about some college athlete who is openly gay being drafted by the NFL. Shows you were the mindset of America is and what the US media pushes as newsworthy. Translation, it's a fucking joke. Meanwhile, bloody riots in the streets, children and civilians being killed in wars, the majority of the world's volcanoes erupting and biblical flooding in many parts of the world. But we wouldn't want anyone focusing on that now would we? Spot on. It's s sad world we live in when the sexual preference of a football player is more newsworthy than people dying and suffering. The total number of houses flooded since december is 4800. This includes the 800 houses flooded by river thames in london. We are not used to this, so understandably it is a big deal. But look at the stats. They are real. In total only 4800 houses have been flooded. As bad it is for those families, it is a very very very small number on bigger scale of things. Scientists have admitted that at worst another 5000 homes maybe at risk. No more. Now compare this figure to the number of houses destroyed in india, pakistan, usa NO, bangladesh, Philippines etc etc. Globally is not a big deal at all, but since uk is always in comfort, even spilling a hot cup of tea on yourselves is a big deal. Now grow up and learn to deal with it. On another note. Houses that got flooded in london were all in the upend area of uk. All the rich people got hit. Insurance will cover them, but here is the big deal. What if it happens next year and the year after? Those multi million pound houses will be worth zero. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 43634415 United States 02/12/2014 05:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Andy McKenzie, a groundwater scientist at the British Geological Survey, told Sky News that even if the rain stopped today, so much water is soaking through the soil that levels are likely to keep rising for another two months. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47736581 England has had the most rainfall ever recorded (since 1760) this winter and it continues unabated. It's not a matter of the rivers overflowing their banks. The ground under the Island is completely saturated and can not hold any more water. The entire Island is in peril from flooding. There are parts of England that have been completely cut off from the flooding since early January. And they continue to be pummeled by storm after storm, including another one expected this Friday. Railway lines have been washed away and rail services disrupted. Their agricultural land is underwater. The flooding has now extended into London. There is nowhere for the water to go, and as above, is expected to continue rising for 2 months even if it stopped raining today. The British Geological Survey estimates 1.6 million properties in England and Wales are at risk of groundwater flooding. [link to news.sky.com] I don't know if they are just trying not to panic the population but if I were there, I'd definitely be heading to Canada. I would highly recommend removing all the people who would like to leave, leave now...or get every body to higher, dryer and stable ground if that is possible. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 41591036 United States 02/12/2014 05:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The absolute failure in this flooding has to be pointed at the UN and Agenda 21 and the Enviroment Minister Chris Smith who cut vital funds to dredge rivers and bank tidal walls in the areas flooded. Quoting: Papa_lazarou This failure to even contact the democratically elected MP of that constituency is typical of the fascist goose-stepping jackboot of this global corporatist takeover. Because even if you believe that all the recent stormy weather is an act of God – rather than an act of HAARP – there is one inescapable smoking gun. You don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist, because it’s all on record in the form of government consultations and EU Directives, to realise that the flooding of the Somerset Levels has been largely caused by a deliberate run-down of the necessary maintenance to drainage infrastructure which is required for geo-engineered land. This draconian slashing of the funding of the river dredging, and other necessary work needed for adequate drainage, has been carried out in line with EU policy which itself is aligned with UN Agenda 21, which seeks to move people out of the countryside and into the cities. What will happen next is that the carpet baggers will move into the Levels to buy up the land at rock bottom fire-sale prices, which is all the farmers will be able to charge now that the land has been contaminated from overflowing sewerage and their farms are virtually uninsurable. The carpet baggers will probably make a killing in selling that land on to the frackers, as it stands over a huge shale gas field which they’ve been slavering over for some time. Allowing anti-flood measures is the real problem. From the photos I have seen, I can even see the anti-flood measures. They are/were very good. Better than most places. But, letting them run down means that sooner or later there will be too much rain and they will fail. No one has to even do anything else.. just let things run down and run down... And you're right about the carpetbaggers. The carpetbaggers ruined Georgia and it is to the point to where.. well, there are threads about it. I have been in Georgia during an ice storm that lasted a week. It didn't cause any kind of problems like this! But, the government in Atlanta was different then as that was early last decade. |
