just to confirm the special forces are not on standby, they are going in with australian special forces. Part of their mission is to protect those 40 military police. There are other larger reserve forces on standby.

As for the comment that this would tip off the NAF by reporting this. The dutch government informed both Kiev and the separatists officially already. Kiev have agreed to an armed presence. I have no idea how the separatist forces replied.

Two Sukhoi Su-25 combat aircraft on a reconnaissance mission participated in the exercise. It is likely at some point, the routes of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 and a Su-25 jet overlapped. Despite flying at different levels, they became a single dot on the radar of the missile system. Of the two, the system automatically chose a larger target.

The only country with the lift capacity to drop a brigade would be the Americans and the Sky Soldier brigade is currently stationed in Poland.

I'm highly skeptical what use Airborne soldiers would be if they encountered heavy resistance. Airborne soldiers tend to be light infantry.
