Was earlier reported they will allow asylum for Ukraine officials, obviously not for these two now after international warrants were issued.

Interestingly, although now the Tatars in the Crimea are seemingly unified as a Muslim entity shouting "Allahu akbar", they have historically included both Orthodox and Catholic Christians, as well as adherents of traditions akin to Mongolian animistic shamanism.

Current events and reports of events are turning this into a "Muslim Tatars vs Christian Russians" scenario -- it has much more to do with the sense of Crimean Tatars as indigenous people vs invaders (who not too long ago hauled them off to die in labor camps)
