Perhaps I'm not wise enough on the workings of NATO. But getting the distinction impression that if Russia invades Ukraine, there will be direct NATO involvement. Maybe by request of Kiev.

Mostly because Russia wont support the election...

All NATO members would have to agree for alliance involvement into a non member state.

Even if they did nothing can stop this now. Nothing.

Is that a possibility? Or are there members who'd be dead set against it?

The soldiers now coming into Eastern Ukraine from Crimea are Ukrianian soldiers. Members of the Ukranian military in revolt against Kiev.
They are not Russian for goodness sake, they are Ukranians who were stationed in Crimea, now moving back to Ukraine but via Russia because the crossing to Kherson is now closed to them.

The tanks and vehicles have orange and black ribbons on their sides, presumably the same ones used in the Donbass.

Germany was against sending Air Forces to Libya but still agreed to NATO involvement.

So its possible that peacekeeping forces will be sent.

This whole thing is about bringing the Ukraine under dollar/Imf control...in order to stop Ukraine going along with the new BRICS bank being set up.

This not because NATO wants to get involved. They just want to assure us that help will come if Russia tries anything here.

It has been a constant bombardment in our media... Different people saying over and over again that the alliance is strong.

There's a certain feel to the whole thing, like it's being turned into a new age swastika.

Why would this be out of ordinary? The parade is celebrating victory in WW2.

If you have to keep assuring and saying 'we are strong' then the opposite is true.

Needless to say probably worst crisis since Cuba missile crisis. Anyone see a happy ending? Obama doesn't like Putin and Putin doesn'trust the US.

As I remember only small percentage of soldiers stayed in Crimea. The rest left the peninsula. I'm sure those who stayed are Ukranians but give them 15 years and they'll be saying they are Russian. Insane in Ukraine..

I think Ukraine will descend into a full scale proxy civil war, with the country eventually being split in two.

They would never get NATO agreement.

But that would not stop, for example, Poland acting alone knowing that NATO has their back. And that means, for example, that if Russia encircled and seized Kiev, as many think likely, Poland might take the opportunity to seize Lviv, largely unopposed, and Russia would do nothing about it for fear of NATO.

And any post-war new Russian-friendly government in Kiev would have lost West Ukriane to annexation by Poland.
