The problem with the SU-25 MH17 shoot-down theory is the fact that an SU-25 can only really reach the required height for a very short time (maybe time enough, but it sounds like it'd need an ace pilot) so, what if a MiG-29 shot down MH17? A MiG 29 can certainly fly high enough and also has 30mm cannon rounds, and Ukraine have a number of them... 45 MiG-29s aircraft were captured by the Russian Armed Forces on Belbek Air Base during the 2014 Crimean crisis, 3 MiG-29S and one MiG-29UB. 37 MiG-29s were handed back to Ukraine by late May 2014. Five MiG-29MU1 Ukrainian upgrade (1 in 2011). Additional two were renovated in 2012. Initially mothballed, the fleet of MiG-29s was in April 2014 restored to active service as a result of the unrest in Ukraine. Quoting: Wikepedia
