Gabala Radar Station (Russian: Габалинс&#108​2;ая РЛС, tr. Gabalinskaya RLS; Azerbaijani: Qəbələ RLS) [note 1] was a Daryal-type (NATO Pechora) bistatic Passive electronically scanned array early warning radar,[2] built by the Soviet Union in the Qabala district of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1985.[3] It was operated by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces and closed at the end of 2012. The radar station had a range of up to 6,000 kilometres (3,728 mi), and was designed to detect missile launches as far as the Indian Ocean.[4] The radar's surveillance covered Iran, Turkey, India, Iraq and the entire Middle East.[5] It could detect the launch of missiles and track the whole trajectory to enable a ballistic missile defense system to intercept an offensive strike. The Radar Station hosted about 1,000 Russian servicemen with about 500 Azerbaijanis.[6]

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan negotiated the terms of the lease and in 2002 the two countries signed an agreement according to which Russia leased the station from Azerbaijan until 24 December 2012 for $7 million per year rent, $5 million per year for electricity and $10 million per year for other services.[3][6][7]

In 2012 the future of the station was being negotiated between Russia and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan and Armenia have ongoing tension and Russia and Armenia are close. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan are members of the CIS but only Armenia is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation. Russia has a new Voronezh radar in Armavir which covers the same region as Gabala.[7][8][9][10] Russia offered to modernise the station and Azerbaijan wanted to increase the rent Russia paid,[11] from $7m to $300m according to one source.[12]

On December 2012 Russia announced that negotiations had been unsuccessful and that they had stopped using the radar station.[13][14] The station was given back to Azerbaijan[15] and all the equipment dismantled and transported to Russia.[16]

There was no 'Buk' or 'fighter jet attack' in knowledge at that time. This was only a few minutes after the loss of transponder when ATC was trying to figure out what was going on.

ATC was simply looking for an airplane, a few minutes after it had lost a transponder signal.

Are you seriously so utterly lacking in knowledge to suggest that at the time Singapore was diverted to look to see if MH17 was still flying that ATC had God-knowledge of what the future might bring of information? I sure hope not.

Yes it was your previous post that reinforced the clues I've been working on. I know I don't have the full picture yet but the events are occurring about a day after the info is published on the internet.

MH17 was not shot by an Su-25 shadowing it. NATO ran drills and training exercises July 2-4 that used a trailing plane to spoof the transponder from a Commercial A/C signature to a Transponder MIL signature. MH17 was shot from the ground and for all intents and purposes was made to show up on radar as a MIL aircraft. Doing this offers the highest level of deniability by those that spoofed the transponder.

We will have to wait to hear about what Singapore-Airline's black-box data says and how that corresponds with the "changed path of flight" before MH17 went down, and if these adjustments were also ordered by Kiev-flight-tower.

The FIGHTER-JETS were seen and recorded to trail the MH17 more then 4 minutes before it went down.
It was seen that the jets fired and hit the engine, that the plane made an U-turn ... but no BUK was indeed seen on satellite images nor the witnesses on the ground ...

One of the employees at the tower who was not "IN" on the attack was the Spanish-guy who tweeted what was happening.
