If you were a technican back in 1984 repairing IBM PC's you were making as much per hour as a full time plumber. I know of this because i was one of those many IBM PC technicans though my skill was not limited to just IBM PC's i like many others took apart the Amiga computers and early day apple computers to learn how they worked so we could better provide for our clients (some of which were business owners who used Amigas) At least if you're gonna lie about canada in the 70's and 80's try a little harder. Fine, all you say is probably true. When I graduated college, computers were still taking up the whole basement at the U of Windsor. You were born later, I had left by then, get over it. I'm not a technical person anyway, would not have done me any good. I started businesses, I hired people to do computer work, my talents were and are elsewhere. A whole basement? what time period were you living in. The typical IBM home based PC took up as much room as a desk at best. That stuff you speak of taking up an entire basement stopped happening around 1979 (when IBM built their first server). In the 80's computers keep getting smaller and smaller to the point the first laptops started showing up. Fastforward to the 90's where computers now are as we know of them and very fast (fast back then). "I started businesses, I hired people to do computer work, my talents were and are elsewhere." im glad people like you exist, because you allowed my business to prosper through your lack of using PC's back then. Stuff that should have cost you as a business say 100$ i would charge 300$ for because you as a business had no idea if my price was correct but you needed that computer more than the money. Oh the 80's such a prosperous time to rip off a business owner as a PC technican. well you reap what you sow. I just got new computers because I was a successful honest business person, didn't even need your "help", still dont "It's a friendly friendly world" (Andy Kaufman) Calm seas do not a sailor make, Nor easy horses, a horseman. And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower and when He could be certain only drowning men could see Him- Leonard Cohen |

I not only repaired em i sold em too, in bulk depending on the client. Trust me you guys needed my help in the 80's more than you think. I remember the calls very well of business owners such as yourself panicing when the most simplest repairable problem came up and you guys wasted huge amounts of cash on new computers while the old ones never got repaired, such a pity indeed. Oh well it still happens today business owners ordering computers in bulk, yet at least they are finnaly as business's smart enough to maintain IT departments. |

Wow I was considering possibly studying in Canada later on because I would save money. Had no idea you guys were in trouble... I wouldnt let that stop you from coming, I still think we are better off than some... --I want to point something out to all that have posted....It seems that for the persons that are doing well and seriously im happy for you, "When your up your up, and when your down your down" we all have our great years , but as history / Experience / Wisdom will tell most will experience a down time where things are very tough...I feel that as the time moves forward in this world , we are seeing a momentium shift more to the tougher side for people... Yes not all will suffer , and some will do much better in this environment, but the majority will suffer & until it truly comes to your home & family, you will not understand... Our government is slowly nickel and diming us to death and again the percentages either do not care or do not understand Instead of facing these changes head on , we become blinded to the reality of it and fall into its trap... To powers that be have all the control and are steps ahead of you and me by a mile.. If you feel that by telling me that you make alot of money because of oil "You are feeding the beast and are more trapped that you can ever imagine... Your standard of living being based on you income will eventually be eroded as you struggle to maintain your lifestyle..... When your $ is taxed both front and back end this is not for funding wars as originally taxes were conceved for, but to maintain the illusion that society can still function through the illusion... Statistics and Polls, Consumer confidence and stock markets , Stimulation by printing paper with lots of nice 0's on it will only last as long as the system can bear..... Interest rates will eventually go up as inflation , majorly built up by the government forcing it down the public will,Eventually leading to erosion of your after tax $$.. Denial is always human nature , Anger/Acceptance Etc, its the same for reality, but as your reality comes crashing down you can accept it or deny it..... |

In the 70's there was lots and lots of jobs in Canada, especially Ontario. manufacturing still existed back in the 70's and all my buddies were in it the second they were old enough to work. After highschool you had two options. Take a trade and succeed in about 3-5 years, or go to College for the same amount of time and take a chance on one of the new computer fields. Fast forward to late 78, jobs were still good, and out of nowhere computers just take off right around 1981-1984 for the first time giving even more opporutunity to get jobs. Most people in the 70's and 80's canada were not poor in the slightest, most just had no idea how to save their cash properly. People on here who know me, know that I'm not a liar. There were jobs in Windsor in assembly line work, but I was not about to be a slave for 30 years, nor was I about to be a school teacher or social worker. I wanted a life of adventure and prosperity and I went out and got it, in the USA You mean the unemployment capital of canada? Chysler is demanding govt monies to continue operations there.. If chrysler shuts down ...buh bye ...welcome to flint canada we called Windsor a "lunch bucket town", the reason we went to college was to escape the dreariness of it and get something better in life. You dont have to tell me that , i live in tecumseh , and my son attends the u |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52153964 Canada 02/21/2014 11:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Canada needs about 3% of all the resource in the country to keep out 34.5 million population to be looked after. we need to get our resources to countries (china , india, ect... that need and have the capitol to use our extra we have to offer. biggest issue with canada is we don't have enough people that will live in places that have the resource so we can't sell it fast enough to fuel the economy . to much land not enough humans to work the land is the problem. a low dollar mean we are a better deal for the rest of the world(worked for china) we just have a way higher standard of living that cost 10 times more then the east. I really hate this scenario. I'd rather have a lower population with a hell of a lot less immigrants, especially immigrants from third world countries. I'd rather have fewer entitlements, less infrastructure, less government. We can't afford to pay for it anyway. Allowing all those older immigrants in (especially the grand parents of immigrants caused financial hardships and is the reason why the retirement age was raised to 67 |

Quoting: Double O Zero I was reading the other day that the provincial government is looking to call early elections and wants to put out another white paper. That, coupled with more stringent language police, seems like a precursor to try three. I've always wondered how people outside Quebec feel about all the special privileges the Quebecois get. I'll sum it up, if they can up and choose to leave Canada, why cant we up and vote to kick them out? Other than poutine, easy women with bad accents, the Habs and inspiration on how to riot, I dont think they've contributed much. |

I moved to Saskatchewan in a transfer with my job with Air Canada, I was a flight attendant. I fell in love with this province because it has lakes like northern Ontario up north, I need to be near water!!!! The southern part of the province are farmers, they want to be left alone. It feels free'er here IMO. I think people are beginning to realize this about Saskatchewan. I'm a die hard Rider fan too! This province is always positive and works hard! It was an under dog for years in this nation, not anymore. Montana is good! I love it here. Lived here all my life.
