Re: Reporter Claims Computer Self Deleted Text While He Tried to Write Book About Snowden
Strange stuff from article:
There were curious moments in New York, too, from where many Snowden stories were reported...
Within hours of publication of the first one – which revealed that the NSA was mass-scooping data from the US telecoms company Verizon – diggers arrived outside the Guardian's loft office in Broadway...
They dug up the pavement and replaced it. The same thing happened outside the Guardian's Washington bureau, four blocks from the White House, and the Brooklyn home of US editor-in-chief Janine Gibson

Then later on in the article, while texting his wife:
My iPhone flashed and toggled wildly between two screens; the keyboard froze; I couldn't type

After 30K words:
The paragraph I had just written began to self-delete. The cursor moved rapidly from the left, gobbling text. I watched my words vanish. When I tried to close my OpenOffice file the keyboard began flashing and bleeping.
Over the next few weeks these incidents of remote deletion happened several times.

Disconnect the computer from the internet.... physically disconnect it. Then they won't be spying on open office as you write your articles and books.

OpenOffice: guess what, you friggin' imbecile, it's fucking open!

The digging in front of their offices cracked me up though ... it's like straight out of a bad comedic B-movie.

being in college and seeing how EVERYTHING WE DO IS ON THE INTERNET and disliking the lack of an analog presence in my digital college experience, this sentence above
just floored me.

take it in. really take that sentence in. maybe we are way past 1984. the thought that we have lost the art of pen and paper is heartbreaking.

maybe common core can fix that (not)

^THIS
First read classic literature, then write accordingly:
Actually he was not used to writing by hand. Apart from very short notes, it was usual to dictate everything into the speak-write which was of course impossible for his present purpose. He dipped the pen into the ink and then faltered for just a second. A tremor had gone through his bowels. To mark the paper was the decisive act. In small clumsy letters he wrote: April 4th, 1984.
