The USGS reports a 2.5 magnitude quake at 2:21 a.m. Saturday about 7 miles southwest of Guthrie and a 2.9 magnitude quake at 8:06 a.m. Saturday about 4 miles northeast of Stillwater. Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are general the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not generally seen from quakes below magnitude. 4.0. No injuries or damage are reported. [link to www.fox23.com] Last Edited by Digital mix guy Spock on 02/22/2014 10:49 PM Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 33271946 United States 02/22/2014 10:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | These booms are probably caused by the bedrock breaking during the constant quake action. It's fracking. Quoting: fishingnut I know everyone says that, but not all of these are the underground explosion of a fracking operation. I feel there is a collapsing taking place of drained out oil fields, water tables . . . in combination with this. Also the fracking has perforated holes along the North American Craton plate and that just adds to the man-made environmental disaster happening here & now. just saying "it's fracking" is misleading also check the solar action, when we get hit (Earth) with coronal mass ejections and the magnetoshere is pressured, the weak crust wobbles with the pressure and we get EQs. It is a lot of everything contributing. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33271946 United States 02/22/2014 10:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am in OK and 3 EQs actually happened. I never saw the one from 10 a.m. this morning make any of the sites. The one this morning was typical, the one within the past hour was a little harder jolt. I would say it depends on where you are and what you are doing whether you feel the slighter ones or not. I would not say these 3 today were slight, but on the volume rising side. Almost feels like pre-cursor. |

So we're either all crazy (totally possible), or something weird is up. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2744188 United States 02/23/2014 12:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As someone already mentioned the word terrifying is a bit strong. There is no hysteria here. They are all just like the USGS shows for the most part, small and shallow. They tend to have more of a jolt feeling to them like your entire house was jerked in one direction a few inches and then abruptly stopped. There are those and a wobbling feeling that occurs before and after sometimes. They tend to actually rumble and shake less and less, for me at least. I see now how the Californians say you get used to them. You just here a big deep growl in the distance and grab your drink or whatever and wait a few seconds to see how big it is going to be and then go on. No one here is panicking though. We are used to giant tornadoes and softball size hail remember? This is just another day in the life over here. I dont know what is causing them, fracking is definitely a culprit and obscene amounts of money are made from fracking operations here, so you would expect some resistance in blaming in on that. You have to consider the all the other strange earthquake activity as well though. even it is less abundant than here in Oklahoma. We have been preparing for the worst the same way we do for tornadoes. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That's how we do it. Just wanted to check in and clear up the fear mongering angle the media is spinning. |
