Anonymous Coward User ID: 15418 United States 06/13/2006 04:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The roots of the dispute go back to the 1980s, when the city forced Horowitz to sell the land to for $4.8 million for a trash-to-energy incinerator. The project fizzled and the city turned the land over to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which allowed people to begin gardening there after in the early 1990s. Horowitz sued to get the site back and the city settled in 2003 by selling it to him for $5 million, slightly more than the $4.8 million he had been paid. It's a community food bank garden.. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15418 United States 06/13/2006 04:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How could the city sell it to anyone, after the city donated the land to the people for a food bank garden? are you sure this isn't EMINENT DOMAIN? |

But I'm glad she took an intrest in the local food bank garden.... Otherwise, those people would have been bulldozed right over..... I'm thinking what property the city/government owns where I live. What will be at risk, when the city/government wants land back, to put up what they want, or sell it to the highest bidder..... |

Tree [link to msnbc.msn.com] of course the media making it sound like, or the poor property owner.... But not reporting the fact the city made him sell his property in the first place, donated the land to a food bank. Then resold it back to the owner, at a profit! So the city, can take back any property it sold to anyone, or donated...... City/state parks, homes, communtiy centers, Indian reservations, ect,,,,,, Sounds like emmient domain to me....... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 21 United States 06/13/2006 07:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Willie Nelson and Darryl Hannah are both MEGA-MILLIONAIRES, Darryl's mostly from inheritance. In typical "liberal" fashion, they make a "show" of being caring for the needy, instead of just BUYING THEM SOME FUCKING LAND !!! The owner has rights to the property at this time. The gardeners are trespassing. Instead of thanking him for the time THEY DID have use of the land, they sue him. This is the typical ENTITLEMENT mentality of assholes, who just happen to be poor. The same assholes who demand welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, free medical, and have NO INTENTION of ever working a day in their life. And don't think I grew up privileged. I was damn poor.As soon as I got my first job, I started SAVING the money. No car, no fancy stereo, no expensive shoes, just SAVING. I am now middle class and did it on my own. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15418 United States 06/13/2006 08:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree, They never should have sued the owner, they should have sued the city for reselling him back the land they made him sell. Of course, celebrities, could go around and buy land to give to the poor. However with a greedy system, that uses eminent domain laws to take the land back, and resale it at a profit, what the hell would be the point! |
