CNN on tv just said two passengers may have been traveling on LOST OR STOLEN PASSPORTS! If so this makes terrorism very likely.
Quoting: fishingnut I have no experience in any of this but if passports got stolen a year ago how were they not flagged? Inside job? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31318722 We are being told that only the country that issued the passport is likely to even know it has been stolen. That, and as relates to major criminals. Otherwise, evidently no one is keeping track of this sort of thing. Pretty stupid, huh? . Quoting: Bluebird The USA has a database that tracks stolen passports. Not every country has this. It's not known yet if Malaysia has/uses the technology. Quoting: nutmeg This sets up nice for a new "international travel ID system" that would force every person on the planet to have a type of passport (With security chip) when using planes, trains, buses, subways, etc.
