I don't think religious people are idiots. It's just a superstition that's instilled in people because it gives them comfort. It's all based on a primitive fear of death. But you are spot on in your observation of the blatant inconsistencies and contradictions of faith. Or how about the common expression "God doesn't give us any more than we can handle" Well, I'd say those 2000 plus who were killed in the WTC on 911 were given more than they can handle. And I'm sure countless very religious people in the towers who died were praying quite seriously. Didn't help, did it? And prayer is a contradiction too. If God's will has already determined what will happen to each of us from birth to death, then there's no point in praying for anything. But logic and faith are not the best of friends.
