Malaysia flight 370 facts about the cell phones
The phones can still fully ring if the batteries are dead. Personal experience and it has been tried.

But secondly, they can EASILY find where they are either a) located or b) last located.

They ping off the nearest cellphone tower. Find that tower.

Can it ring under water though? I know cell phones rang during 911. They may have been damaged, yet many did ring. But if this plane went down over water, the cell phones would either being floating on some debris, ejected over land, or in an air pocket.

The "phone" isn't particularly ringing. Technology is different than old phones.

If my battery in my smartphone drains to dead while my phone was never manually turned off, Verizon switch/control will still ring my phone. Whether my phone is in the air, under water, or on a desk somewhere, it rings because Verizon is "patching through" to my phone for lack of a better term to send a ring for that call to get through.

If my phone is manually switched off by me, it won't ring.

Try your own phones. Let me know what happens.

Maybe its a verizon thing, maybe its a smartphone thing.

Uhh... Not for nothing.

There are no cell towers in the ocean. Not to mention that most flights require that phones be off.

I imagine there point last pinged was at the airport.

Electromagnetic waves do not penetrate very far into the salt water and the UHF signals are heavily attenuated and won't penetrate far.

Re: Malaysia flight 370 facts about the cell phones
Just because you dial a cell phone and it rings, that doesn't mean that cell phone is on or even working.

I understand the relatives of those that were on the plane may describe "it rang and answered" but chances are that was just the voice mail system answering the call, it doesn't mean that the phone is on or was answering the call! Now if they are dialing a passenger's phone and the call is answered with voices in the back ground being not that person's voice mail greeting then we have a different thing but that is not is being described.

Come on, this whole cell phone ringing business is getting out of hand, use your bran, Morans!
