January Wolves User ID: 55474501 United States 03/12/2014 12:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There was also a 3.0 a bit below this one off Oregon Coast a few days ago. That subduction zone started swarming in N. Cal on the Gorda plate & is going up the subduction zone. I've watched swarms there before - some lasting almost 2 weeks but usually doesn't get up into 5's. The worrisome thing is how it started off with a 7. Hopefully it will calm down. This USGS map shows the activity of the last week. [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 38517228 United States 03/12/2014 02:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The timing is getting uncomfortably close to about when Cascadia should be due for a "Big One"... They some to come once every 250 - 350 years... and the last "Big One" was January 26th, 1700! I've read stories about the Native American's in the area who had local legends and such about a day when their gods and spirits shook the entire earth, violently... and that the ground bled and where it bled there was fire and then the Ocean came roaring in for many miles... and that this happened all up and down the coast from the areas of North California and up as far north as Vancouver Island Canada. Not only that, but Japanese historical records show, and their geologists and scientists have confirmed, that a Tsunmani came racing across the pacific and swamped their eastern shores on that very same day! So this Quake was big enough to cause massive tsunmai flooding all up and down the North American North West, possible volcanism (ground bleeding with fire?); AND sending a huge Tsunami across the Pacific and into Japan! Japan's recent Tsunami didn't effect our Western Coast very much; so whatever happened in Cascadia on January 26, 1700 had to have been bigger then the recent Japan Quake, to have "swamped" their shores! This would have been long before any European Colonists would have moved any further west. There is no doubt that Cascadia is building up an enormous amount of pressure just waiting to be released, and it started with the 2011 Japan Quake. Its been proved that, that Quake was so strong and so powerful it shifted the entire Island of Japan further to the east, and shifted the Earth's axis! Most important about this though is that it shifted Japan nearly 8 feet closer to North America... which means that whichever Tectonic Plate that Japan is sitting on, also shifted closer to North America... which means this plate was then slammed up against the Pacific Plate, putting more pressure there, and that pressure is then pushed against the Juan de Fuca plate at the Cacadia Region, which is also pushing east and subducting under the North American Plate! Its all pushing east, just waiting for a massive, catastrophic Subduction Megathrust Event right smack in the middle of Cascadia, right off the Oregon Coast!! So you just wait and watch, the next major 9+ will be Cascadia. May not be this year, or next year, but it will come soon. After that, New Madrid will rupture within 20 years, and then after that it will be Lisbon Spain who will have their next Megathrust event, like the one they had in 1755... The pressure is building. Its all pushing east. |

Southern OR User ID: 20471008 United States 03/13/2014 11:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's the spot that quaked daily for months- ships were sent as the thinking was a volcano was going to rise. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55315705 Pretty normal for that area, but Southern Oregon sure could use a tsunami to clean up the trash. Yes, there is an undersea volcano off the Coast of Coos Bay. As for Southern Oregon, I hope the Tsunami is selective. We have a lot of trash but also a lot of normal folks.
