Seeing as it was the second thing they put in it I guess the people who started your nation valued all the constitution not just that part.

Freedom of religion including free speech was first - the 2nd assures (protects) all the rest.

Texas, by the way, is about to legalize the open carry of pistols among citizens who have concealed carry licenses. This will make Texas the safest state in the union and will completely derail would-be terrorists, attackers and mass shooters. The last thing they want is an entire population of armed, determined citizens who are capable of shooting back. I can't wait to take a stroll down the sidewalk on North Lamar, right in front of the Whole Foods world headquarters, and observe citizens with loaded pistols on their hips, calmly going about their business. If this idea freaks you out, you can always choose cities where citizens are disarmed -- like Detroit or Chicago, the violent crime capitals of America, run entirely by Big Government kleptocrats who despise liberty and are particularly skilled at destroying prosperity.

The Congressional Research Service reported that the number of privately owned firearms in America went from 192 million in 1994 to 310 million privately owned firearms in 2009. St Bartholomew's Massacre occurred in France where catholics went to the countryside and slaughtered innocent French Huegonot Protestant farmers as they were unarmed in their homes. This also impressed upon early forefathers that need for self defense.

There was to never have a standing army to be formed. The temptation was considered too great for a federal government to use those troops in foreign affairs.

ALL 17-45 able bodied males in the unorganized militia was considered adequate. It's a law.

Statistics show criminals commit less crimes after they have been shot.

I agree with what you say in your thesis, but it also was to preserve and retain private ownership of property. The freedom to own property was a cornerstone to the founding of this nation. This goes in hand with freedom of religion and other important freedoms. The second amendment merely preserves and defends all the rest of the Bill of Rights.

Only an educated and moral people will understand the concepts and be able to retain their freedom.

Alexander Hamilton — Writing in Federalist 28, he explained that the chief reason for being sure the people are armed is so they have the power to repel a tyranny::

Representative Edwin Arthur Hall (R-NY) – In 1941 he reacted to calls for gun control in the U.S. Congress by pointing to the tyranny that had resulted from gun control in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany:

Representative John W. Patman (D-TX) – In 1941 Patman concurred with Rep. Hall’s arguments against gun control, adding:

The people have a right to keep arms; therefore, if we should have some Executive who attempted to set himself up as dictator or king, the people can organize themselves together and, with the arms and ammunition they have, they can properly protect themselves. . . . JFK – Writing in 1960, he posited “fears of governmental tyranny” as the impetus “which gave rise to the Second Amendment” to begin with. And although he believed it “unlikely” that such tyranny “[would] ever be a major danger to our nation,” he said “the Second Amendment will always be important.” (UCLA School of Law)
