Dandelions - your backyard energy source. | |

Quoting: Let Freedom Ring Dig up dandelion roots (the white part), wash them as well as you can. Let them dry a few days on the kitchen counter, then run them through your coffee grinder. I take about 1 tsp in the morning for energy, just swallow it done (tastes pretty good) and even if I haven't had any sleep, I'm awake and full of energy all day. See the forced swimming test I cite in my article. Mice given dandelion root extract were forced to swim. The mice that had the dandelion root swam faster and further, plus blood tests showed their immune markers were improved over the control mice. I'm going to try to grab some wild growing ones today. I'm used to buying them at the farmers market and adding them to my nutriblast. Are you drying the roots completely and then grounding them to a powder? Does it make your coffee bitter like the leaves do? No, the dried roots are not bitter. I prepare them in 2 ways: 1. wash them and air dry them on my counter, Grind them in my coffee grinder. Eat 1 tsp when I need energy! They taste quite good, slightly sweet. 2. I also take the washed roots and put them in my toaster over at 400 degrees. They turn brown and have a chickory smell. I then grind these in my coffee grinder, and add 50/50 to coffee. |

Do we uproot them after they start seeding or before? Just want to know which are best for picking. I just use the greens for a juice, does kick me more of an energy boost than coffee. Quoting: nah™ I uproot them all summer long, I haven't noticed any difference in the quality. |

Dandelion contains iron, calcium, vitamins a and c and more protein than spinach. Also, since you can fix it like you would spinach - its a preppers dream! When the SHTF, we will have plenty to eat |

It should be noted that bifidobacteria are a common, and very effective probiotic, readily available for purchase on the internet and in drug stores. But why buy it, when you can easily grow your own? |

If you want to see butterfly's and bee's plant the nectar plants and larval food plants like milkweed, passion vine etc. Also there are several weeds that look similar to dandelion such as asian hawksbeard, hairy cat's ear, dwarf dandelion and carolina false dandelion. |

I picked my dandelions yesterday, they looked the exact same as the store bought except a little smaller. I washed the dirt off, I know there are absolutely no pesticides in them. But I couldn't consume them right away, I thought I'll let my husband decide for me because it just felt scary. When he noticed it he asked me what it was and reminded me there are no pesticides back there, it's safe. Yet I eat food with pesticides all the time, even organic food has it's limits with pesticides. So I drank them this morning and I didn't die! In fact they didn't taste as bitter as the store bought. When you find a piece of shit along side the road and you poke it with a stick, what do you expect to find inside of it, gold? No, it's just going to stink more. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41221377 They are indeed bitter, but they are most certainly "good for human consumption"... The latex (gum) is in the flower stem, not the leaves... Within 15 min. of taking 1/2 dropper of the tincture the hives start to fade. We have shared this with many of our friends..The most dramatic was a recovery from a reaction to carpet cleaners in a friends young 5yr old Granddaughter who liked to play on the carpet..Her allergic reaction was so extreme that they went to the ER, and the medical treatment of steroids did very little to help..Nor did they diagnose the cause, we figured it out. They put the child in a bath with dandelion tea added to it and the hives faded away..Her Mother keeps ice cubes of it in her freezer always, just in case. Dandelions aid in liver cleansing and promote bile, which aids digestion. When there is not enough bile, then sludge and stones form in the gall bladder..and indigestion and bloating result..Just the opposite of what is recommended by the medical profession..which promotes blocking the acid to cure indigestion. |
