It was reported on the TV news here a couple of hours ago that the Malaysian government had apparently told the Indian government to suspend the searches they were carrying out in the vicinity of the northern corridor. It is now thought the plane had gone in the direction of the southern corridor on the map, possibly towards Australia.

Sorry I don't have a link yet, but I will post one if it becomes available.
 Quoting: Troggie 44430661

I listened to that on Sky, but they said they'd asked the Indian authorities to suspend the searches in the sea, not the northern corridor. They meant they weren't looking for a crash site at the moment because of the intel they're getting, suggesting that the plane's landed somewhere. My bet's still on Pakistan.
 Quoting: Tess2012

my bet is on pakistan too. If they DID ask India to stop their search of the northern corridor, it would only be to stop a blow up between india and pakistan. And for anyone who believes that the passengers are somewhere safe having their needs taken care of... There is not one scenario here in which that would be an efficient way to deal with it. They are all very, very dead.

there is however good ATC oversight both military and civilian in the northern corridor as opposed to the southern.

Exactly - Every major country in the world has many eyes in the sky trained on that area of the world. It's a hub of commerce, among other "things". China could have easily read the tail number or other info on the plane if it was indeed the plane in those sat. photos. I think it was a misdirect, but for reasons unknown. The U.S. and Russia both have very capable satellites in that area as well. If I can see my car fairly well on Google Earth, I can only imagine what can truly be seen by the new generation of spy satellites. This is political chess and it only sees the passenger (or us) as pawns. Pawns are expendable and I'm rather tired of these overgrown children in their fancy suits playing with the lives of our loved ones. When are we all going to come together and say enough?

Yes. But i think the news article confused your pic with the other pic where the online searcher thought he found the wreckage.

Scroll down a bit. Basically says they searched the location and found nothing. Go figure.

Hmmmmm...

The southern arc, from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean, travels over open water with few islands. If the aircraft took that path, it might have passed near the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. These remote Australian islands, with a population of fewer than 1,000 people, have a small airport.

Even if that plane is in Diego Garcia, you derps don't think you'll be able to find some free real-time satellite database on the net, with images showing the plane in a US secretive base, do you???

Kish Island, Iran is still my guess if it flew west. It's only 3,500 miles from the last known coords to there. Flight time would be around 7 hours. [link to imgur.com]

Those original coordinates - you neglected to say if the latitude was minus or plus - if you read the coordinates as the OP gave them, this lands you 900 nautical miles north of garcia - if you add - (minus) to your coordinates them you go to Garcia - so which is it? my bet is North - just enough fuel

Ok derps, this is what you want:

-07.3007361°, 072.3997000°

Near real-time satellite image from NASA:

[link to rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov]

The are is in the image snapped at 05:25 UTC:

[link to rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Five altitude/pixel available, from 4 km to 250 m, but nobody is gonna find shit because there's so much cloud, you can barely spot a couple of land masses. Btw I didn't manage to find Diego Garcia atoll.
