I will prayer for your mother and all your family. My dad took chemo at age 55, it killed him. I had breast cancer at 44, took chemo and it almost killed me. I ended up not finishing the treatments....here is how it went for me...1 treatment full strength almost killed me....2nd treatment half strength almost killed me again...3rd treatment half strength almost killed me again....4th treatment (new med) full strength almost killed me again. I was hospitalized 26 times in a 6 month period....the last chemo treatment....I said no more. Left it in God's hands, which is what I should have done to begin with. I still have problems from the chemo. Nerve damage on my feet, and arms...as well as damage to my heart from a heart attack I incurred 3 hours after my 3rd chemo treatment.

Prayers for your Mom. Please say one for my dad as well. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and I think there is underlying pneumonia. xo

OP, my father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. To ease you worries, the doctors told us (about 7 years ago, when he was diagnosed) that if you were to have any cancer, multiple myeloma would be the "best". It's the easiest to treat, with tons of very viable options that my father went through all throughout these years. Now he's on pomalidomide and it's reversing a lot of the growths. There's stem cell transplants which gave him 2 years of being cancer free until it came back, then he got onto valcade and something else, but he stopped to try out a clinical trial. This set him back as it caused the cancer to progress. But he's back on the Pom and it's working again.

He got chemo and radiation to zap a bunch of tumors that grew throughout the years. But the good thing about myeloma is that it grows on bone; it doesn't damage tissue like aggressive cancers (leukemia, etc). Avoid falling, and strengthen her muscles and bones. Even take medical marajuana to increase her appetite and reduce the pain during chemo and radiation if they're needed.

The main treatment that helps in conjunction with everything are steroids (not anabolic). They reduce inflammation and give you energy. They also make you want to eat a lot, so when she gets on steroids, keep an eye out for her blood sugar. It will spike and may cause swelling.

If you want to get in touch with me and talk about it id be more than happy to tell you everything I know and experienced. Long story short, her life will continue on without much pain or handicap. She will meet tons of people at the hospital who are super nice and friendly, and make connections with other cancer patients. It's an experience that no one should go through but she will beat it. People rarely die from multiple myeloma; it's usually complications such as pneumonia and physical injuries that add up and eventually take a toll on the body. Stay strong and I will pray for you (it works, too)

At 91 I'm pretty certain that standard treatments of chemicals, radiation will kill her. In fact, her last days, she will most probably beg to die.
I cared for my mother and when I found out her case was terminal, I made sure that we kept postponing those poisons being put into her and her last months were as pleasant as anyone with metastatic cancer can be. She enjoyed nice Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and went to the hospital two days after Xmas and passed away less than a month later in hospice care.
Palliative care (aka Hospice) is what you want to give a 91 year old, particularly with congestive heart failure.
I'll pray for your mother and you and your family with the hopes that you can all come together and make her last days pleasantly memorable and comfortable for her and for you and all the family.

It feels like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I had just come back from my oldest daughters 2nd doctor appointment of the day, when I got the bad news. I have 2 brothers who do little to nothing. One has a valid excuse, as he is a thousand miles away, and his wife also has cancer and MS, but the other one is fairly close, and can't be bothered. Thank God for my 2nd oldest brother, who has been an absolute Blessing for my mother.

God hears all prayers, and answers all prayers, even though sometimes we don't like the answer. Miracles do happen. You got to have Faith.

This cancer attacks the marrow, and weakens the bones until they just break. Very painful.

Praying for you, your mother, and your family!

I know the chemo will kill her. She has too much faith in doctors, and will probably consent to chemo. My brother does have medical power of attorney. I talked to him earlier, and stressed that the chemo will kill her, that alternatives to conventional medicine is the only thing that might help.
