Re: need help choosing a cheap tablet
I got a Hisense Sero 7 Pro

It's basically a galaxy nexus 7 or whatchamacallit, but, better. and cost $130 bucks.

We gave it to our 3 year old, and, no scratches, and everything still works. It's a tough little bugger.

Its' got a quad core tegra 3 processor (Nvidia), fast as hell, you can play Call of Duty quality games on the thing.

I ran Quadrant on it and it BLEW by everything!!!!.. Just get some more memory for it...

just my suggestion, but that Sero kicks the Galaxy Nexus in the asshole..

Re: need help choosing a cheap tablet
only things I don't like about it.

first, since we just gave it to the 3 year old, he's had it for about 4 months now,, there's screenshots of EVERYTHING, all his monster truck games, minions (dispicable me, lol.), you get the idea, but, it does give me an idea what he does with it. It is b/c the screenshot function is built into the menu buttons (you know, all the bottom buttons).

I added an 8 gig card to it, so, it has way too much crap he added to it, again, lol. God I hope he didn't pay for any of it...

ummmmm,, guess that's it, haven't seen if it supports multiple accounts or not.

IT's a little beast, that tegra in it is obviously powerful, probably moreso than my 2 year old destop...

I'm a Nexus guy myself but the earlier poster is correct. The Hisense is a great little tablet and a steal for what the thing costs.

The Nexus 7 does have front and rear cameras though. The specs are better and the manufacturer is larger and more trustworthy.

Lastly, with the Nexus 7 you will get updates from Google directly and much sooner than any third party manufacturers.

Some do. The Asus transformer line have USB ports and awesome docks that basically turn your tablet into a laptop with AMAZING battery life (The dock has an extra battery inside that gives you about 10 more hours)

The Nexus 7 has USB OTG which allows you to use an adapter plugged into the micro USB port. Then you can use mice, keyboards, flash drives, etc.

I heard the Nexus 7 didn't have front cam in all reviews...

BUT, you can ROOT a SERO, how easy is it to ROOT a NEXUS???

Dr. Evil with pinky in mouth since I can't find it.

Plus, you can HIT PEOPLE WITH THE SERO, it is a weapon as well, Would you smack someone in the face with your Nexus??

LOL... srsly, you wouldn't believe the beating the SERO takes, it gets run over by battery operated Cars regularly..

The original N7 did not have a rear cam. The 2013 model has front and rear and they upped the processor and screen rsolution to a quad core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro and 1920x1200 respectively.

And yes the Sero is an awesome tablet and well worth the money. Truthfully its worth much more.

As for rooting, with all Nexus devices all you have to do is OEM Unlock. There is no trick to it. Nexus devices are made to be rooted.

Ditto the highsense sero.
Not sure what the dude means about the Google updates. I get them regularly without a problem/delay.
For the cost, you can't beat it.
Oh, and the screen is great. No, its not an iPad, but who cares? Its a tablet for crying out loud, not an HDTV.

Meaning that When Google releases the Android updates they get released to Nexus devices first since Google supports their own tablets. All other devices get them weeks to months later.

Yes you can root your device and hope someone creates an updated custom rom but what if you just aren't that comfortable with rooting or custom roms? Then you have to rely on the manufacturer. I may be wrong but I think the Sero isn't even running Kit Kat (latest version of Android)yet. (I may be wrong).

More like a few days on the updates, and hey, I'm cool with that. Just remember to report all the problems with the update asap and maybe you can stop it from being sent to me, lol!
As for the latest version, again, who cares? If I had a dime for every time I've screamed over windows 8 on my kids laptop, I could have bought 7 and cleared up the headache, lol!
Latest OS, sharpest images, first updates, etc. All trivial.
JMHO.

few days for the updates?
The Nexus 7 has had Kit Kat for 4 months already. The Sero7 still hasn't gotten it and according to most forums it will never get it (at least from the manufacturer).

I'm not knocking the Sero 7 Pro. Like I said earlier it is worth a lot more then what walmart sells it for but lets be realistic. It is 2 year old technolgy.

The Nexus 7 costs more but it is much better in every category.

I'm using a cheap chinese tablet right now. I got 3 months ago for about $180. Works really great and has enough power with the Intel processor and a top notch screen! I owned many different chinese tablets, but this is the best one so far. It's the new Ramos I9 8.9”!

I got mine here for a special introduction price (it's more expensive now, but still good value) [link to www.merimobiles.com]

I'll check and see if my Sero has the update when I get home, if I get time. b/c, it works fine as it is so far.

I'd honestly rather have a Tegra 4 than a snapdragon, but I'll take a Tegra 3 quad anyways.

I don't see the cost to advantage in any of those, many of which can be upgraded on each platform (except OB RAM).
