General Pershing went to Mexico prior to WW1 to stop Mexican incursions, Pershing and the US Army got their ASS kicked out of Mexico. It was a major blow to the US Army, that it was never recorded as a loss.
The US went into WW1 because the Germans were threatng to support Mexican claims of regaining the southwest.
The Mexico claim is valid will eventually occur at the present rate.
