It had several waring government where the Mexican dictator Santa Anna rose to power.
There were three Independence movements that lead to three republics against rule by the Mexico City dictatorship.
The Mexico City Federal Government did nothing to improve the Southwest.
Only a few thousand Spanish speakers even lived in the Southwest and they had no allegiance to Mexico City.
Mexico has zero claim on the Southwest. Besides if Mexico takes over all the illegals and they children and grand children lose their EBT cards and everything else.
The illegals lose their monthly social security checks. Sure ship all the Mexicans out of the rest of the USA and have the Southwest.

All teh Mexicans currently getting handouts will end up like the dirt poor peasants that they were in Mexico.
