Could the U.S. Face a Cruise Missile Threat from the Gulf of Mexico?
"

The United States is puzzling over how to block cruise missiles that theoretically could be launched from the Gulf of Mexico, even after throwing some of its most advanced technologies at the problem.

Russia and Iran have been cited as possible threats that might, at some point, lurk in the waters just off U.S. shores.

A 2013 military exercise pitted systems such as Patriot interceptors, Aegis warships and combat aircraft against potential cruise-missile or short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Gulf. But the drill highlighted a particular vulnerability to cruise missiles lobbed from that region, U.S. Northern Command head Gen. Charles Jacoby indicated in congressional testimony last week......"

Of course, why else do you think Putin sent the warship to cuba a month ago? There's no doubt they've unloaded several missiles onto Cuban soil, aimed this way, waiting on orders to launch should they need/want to.

Maybe the ship in the Houston Ship canal was sunk by a Chinese submarine?

Sure they could strike, but can they sustain a cruise missile attack? While I defend Russian military prowess they simply could not sustain a cruise missile attack. Lobbing a dozen or so missiles into the continental US could do serious damage if well targeted, but in the end it would not likely be a deciding factor in a protracted war. No more so than the US firing a few dozen 1,000 pound warheads into Russia or China would bring them to their knees.

The US navy and airforce would swarm the Gulf and enemy vessels would be on the run. Of course we can talk about NBC weapons when it concerns unstable countries like Iran or NK, but such weapon use seems far fetched for any competent nation. The surest way to destruction is to fire some sarin gas into Atlanta or Dallas. The American people would demand instant fucking mushroom clouds.
