The authorities said the body was seated upright in a taxi, dressed in a T-shirt and jeans with sunglasses and sandwiched between three others. If after 21 days they show no signs of having the virus they will be tried for violating the health emergency. Imagine what that would have looked like. Damn. H1 |

NawtyBits User ID: 69284832 United States 05/26/2015 11:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Patient in N.J. dies of Lassa Fever, says CDC By Kathleen O'Brien | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com on May 25, 2015 at 11:12 PM, updated May 26, 2015 at 12:27 AM [link to www.nj.com] A U.S. traveler who recently returned from West Africa has died in a New Jersey hospital of Lassa Fever, the viral hemorrhagic fever rarely seen in the United States, the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced late Monday night. The unidentified traveler landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport May 17, flying from Liberia via Morocco. He had no fever or symptoms during the flight, nor when he was screened at the airport upon arrival. The next day, however, he went to an unnamed hospital in New Jersey complaining of a sore throat, fever and fatigue. When asked about his recent travel history - a common question in wake of ongoing fears about the Ebola virus - he did not reveal his recent visit to Liberia, according to the CDC. Sad He was treated and released, but returned to the hospital last Thursday, May 21, because his symptoms had worsened. He was transferred to an unnamed facility designed to treat viral hemorrhagic fevers and specimens were submitted to the CDC for testing. The test results, available Monday morning, confirmed Lassa Fever but were negative for Ebola and other viruses. WWJBD-What Would Jimmy Buffett Do "If it's wet and not yours, don't touch it." NawtyBits User ID: 69284832 United States 05/26/2015 11:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | South Korea, Saudi Arabia confirm more MERS cases Filed Under: Ebola; VHF Jim Wappes | Editorial Director | CIDRAP News | May 26, 2015 South Korea has had two more MERS-CoV cases among contacts with its first MERS case—now five cases total—and Saudi Arabia reported four new infections in as many days. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued statements recently on the first three Korean MERS-CoV (Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus) cases, recent cases in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and 16 recent Saudi cases. Korean health worker infected The two new cases in South Korea involve the daughter of the third Korean MERS patient and a healthcare worker (HCW) involved in MERS care, according to separate reports today from the Korea Herald. The daughter, however, likely did not contract the disease from her 76-year-old father, who shared a hospital room with South Korea's first MERS-CoV case-patient, a 68-year-old who had traveled to the Middle East, the Herald reported. Officials believe she contracted MERS from the 68-year-old man while visiting her father in the hospital. She was quarantined as one of the 64 contacts of the first patient, the story said. She tested positive for MERS-CoV at a state-designated hospital after she developed a fever higher than 100°F. She is in stable condition, according to officials. A separate Korea Herald story, translated and posted today by the infectious disease blog Avian Flu Diary, said that one of two HCWs with suspected MERS has tested positive for the disease, while the other HCW appears to have tested negative. Korea reports seven MERS cases, one suspect flies to China [link to www.thesundaily.my] SEOUL: South Korea said Thursday it had confirmed two more MERS virus infections, bringing the total number of cases to seven, as one suspected victim ignored warnings and flew to China on a business trip. The infections, all traced to the original case of a 68-year-old man diagnosed on May 20 after returning from a trip to Saudi Arabia, have triggered public concerns of a wider outbreak. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is considered a deadlier but less infectious cousin of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus that appeared in Asia in 2003 and killed hundreds of people, mostly in China. [snip] The Korea Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said more than 70 people who may have been exposed directly or indirectly to the original patient were currently in voluntary quarantine. However, one of them, a 44-year-old man, left for China on a business trip on Tuesday, a day after his father was diagnosed with the virus. "We advised him against the trip but he refused," CDC director Yang Byung-Guk told reporters, Yang said the Chinese health authorities had been notified and the man had been admitted to a Chinese hospital for testing following his arrival. A list of 28 passengers who had sat close to the man on the China-bound flight had also been drawn up, he added. WWJBD-What Would Jimmy Buffett Do "If it's wet and not yours, don't touch it."
