Re: EBOLA 2014 >>>> Latest News and Updates relating to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the USA.
Ebola has popped up for about 40 years. It's been around a LOT longer than that, but the virus was identified back then. It's a level 1 bio-hazard and is very deadly. And, it's already been in the United States. In 1989, there was an outbreak in a primate research facility in Reston, Virginia. Fortunately, it didn't jump species...but if it HAD been a strain that was contagious to humans...

Don't panic over this. Ebola happens. It's happened for decades. It generally happens in African villages with poor sanitation. This outbreak will die out, and in a few years, it'll happen again. Worry when you hear about it in New York, London, Tokyo, or someplace like that.

There WAS a case where someone was infected with Ebola traveled in a plane. Even with all the recirculated air, no other passengers were infected. Ebola is a very "smart" virus. When the virus uses up a host, they bleed out and THAT is when it gets dangerous. There IS a small risk of it being transmitted via the air, but the real risk is bodily fluids. Like I said, the outbreaks are almost always in crappy little villages with crappier sanitation practices.

There have been outbreaks before and they contained them right? I feel bad for the victims...I am sure this is a horrible way to die.

Not gonna get a doom boner though...this will also be contained unless they WANT to spread it to the huge population areas...

Sorry, I've been waiting to say that since I read HotZone for the first time. That book completely freaked me out. I also bought it at a thrift store, and my copy was really dusty. The more I read, the more grossed out I was by the dust all over the book. I remember reading the part about how much Ebola would fit on a period at the end of a sentence, and being afraid of that period. lol

I have to laugh when I'm scared.

possible spread in Liberia.

Does Guinea's Ebola extend as far as Monrovia, Liberia?

Many thanks to Henrik, who just left a comment on the Le Monde post. He wrote:

My daughter is a doctor in Foya, Liberia, close to the border to Guinea. They have had one confirmed ebola death. Also, the disease is reported in Monrovia.

I haven't found any Liberian media covering the story yet, and Guinea's own ministry of health website appears to be down. But I'll look further into the Liberian angle.

Sierra Leone has some of the worst poverty. This is probably by design. The Evil Satanist New World Order. If this gets going it could probably wipe out hundreds of thousands.

Doctors without Borders would be the only ones in this area. They are not NWO but the only front line these people would have.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55616859

Missionaries I know who have been to Sierra Leone say it is very much like parts of the US. For example:

For the fourth consecutive year, Columbus County has ranked as the least healthy county in the state.

If Ebola makes it to here, it may find familiar conditions.

If anyone is interested in visiting scenic Sierra Leone this spring:

62 infected and only 34 dead? Over many months?

Ebola is one of the worst transmitting viruses for being pretty decently lethal. It's only a huge worry for humans if it's over 80% deadly with a large scale spread, like a mutated flu would be similar to the spanish flu today.

I recently researched Ebola a little bit for a Microbiology class. It is thought to be a zoonotic (animal borne) virus, but it's natural habitat isn't known.
I think it's spread through bats by bite, not quano.

Just read the UNICEF brief, interesting words.

Already we know that caregivers urgently need protective equipment such as hats, masks, goggles,
gloves, boots, aprons, and other material such as coats, disinfectant sprays, and, sadly, body bags,”
said the UNICEF Representative. He asked medical workers to keep themselves up-to-date with the latest information and to strengthen their cleaning and sanitation regimens.

maybe they have no clue what they are dealing with? Also expecting situation to turn towards the negative.

there are by the way huge concerns about ancient viruses stored in the ice.

If the ice melts, the virus gets in the water, or in the soil in case of the tundra, just quietly waiting to cause some havoc.

Ebola is a nasty, nasty virus.

It has a relatively long incubation period and can spread far and wide because of this.

I realize it requires bodily fluids to spread, but that can be A LOT of things.

And if you read the data, the virus was still active 61 days after symptoms ceased in seminal fluid, so it could be STD, too.

It's so ugly.
