Anonymous Coward User ID: 40789983 United States 09/02/2014 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When running my scenarios, I model the world-wide population and then the US population. Looks like the US will be several months behind the rest of the world on this. There will be 2nd and 3rd order effects upon the US due to our highly interconnected international supply systems. At a monthly multiplier of 3.75, the rest of the world will have 1% affected by the virus by the end of December, 2014 - affected means either sick, recovered, or dead. Things will be going ape outside the US. Africa is a sneak preview. At the same rate, the US will reach 1% affected by mid-May. Martial Law will likely be declared well before then. However, the rest of the world will reach almost 10% affected by the end of February, 2015. The next month a majority will be affected. So outside the US, late March is when the lights go out. Again, this is with a multiplier of 3.75 per month. Your mileage may vary according to what Ro you prefer. Factoid: There are just under 1 million staffed hospital beds in the US. Milestones: Censorship of social media Admission of pandemic Breakdowns of logistics and trucking Hospitals filled to overflowing Zones in the US quarantined Food shortages Martial law Telecommunications failure (got a HF radio?) Electricity failure Water failure Secondary diseases Power plants burn Another factoid: Prior to the arrival of Europeans, North America was estimated to have only 13 million Native Americans. That was the population level sustainable by subsistence agriculture and hunting / gathering societies. |

There were chaotic scenes as crowds followed infected man, who was wearing a wristband to show he had tested positive for the disease, and some stallholders argued with him as he approached. The patient escaped from Monrovia's Elwa hospital, which last month was so crowded with cases of the deadly disease that it had to turn people away. One woman at the scene said: "The patients are hungry, they are starving. No food, no water. "The government needs to do more. Let Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf [the President of Liberia] do more." Onlookers cheered as health workers arrived in their protective outfits and try to convince the patient to give himself up. The man, who shows no outward signs of the diarrhoea and bleeding that the virus causes, refuses to return with the health workers and they eventually grab him and carry him away to a waiting ambulance. Comment: MUST WATCH VIDEO. "Footage that wouldn't be out of place in a horror video." MisfitToy |

Quoting: warrior poet Another American Doctor Infected With Ebola, Charity Says Another American missionary doctor working in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola, an aid group said Tuesday. SIM USA said the doctor, who was not named, was treating obstetric patients at ELWA hospital in Monrovia and had not treated Ebola patients in the hospital’s isolation unit, which is separate from the main hospital. The charity said it was not yet known how the doctor was infected, but he immediately isolated himself when he showed symptoms. [link to www.nbcnews.com] |

A reliable source, who confirmed this development to our correspondent in Lagos on Tuesday, said the patient was brought in by members of the health authorities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, to the hospital on Monday. According to the doctor who was on duty when the patient was admitted into the Accident and Emergency Unit, the patient was vomiting blood and stooling, symptoms which are similar to that of an Ebola patient, before he died in the early hours of Tuesday at the Spill-Over ward of the hospital. He said, “They rushed him to the Accident and Emergency Unit, and since he was vomiting and purging and he also had high fever, we quickly took his temperature, it was very high. Anonymous Coward User ID: 40789983 United States 09/02/2014 03:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why do I have this odd feeling like there are already unreported cases in the US? Quoting: Klasikatica You spend too much time on GLP! Just kidding. We got an unsubstantiated report a few weeks ago of 30 alleged cases from a questionable source; then the CDC came out and said some 60 cases were referred to them. They discounted all but the ones everyone knows of. How did they discount the cases? The vast majority by *wait for it* a telephone interview! A dozen or so samples were sent into the CDC who, predictably, found no Ebola. Some "uncle" reports of a coverup in progress have also been offered. My gut? We have between 30 and 60 cases floating around the US. My models use 30 at the end of August. |
