Also, another Ebola patient has survived the disease and has been discharged, says Lagos Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris on Wednesday at a news conference held at the government secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja. NawtyBits User ID: 63055817 United States 09/20/2014 01:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | dryheat [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The abstract, in full: Quote: Lancet. 2000 Jun 24;355(9222):2210-5. Human asymptomatic Ebola infection and strong inflammatory response. Abstract BACKGROUND: Ebola virus is one of the most virulent pathogens, killing a very high proportion of patients within 5-7 days. Two outbreaks of fulminating haemorrhagic fever occurred in northern Gabon in 1996, with a 70% case-fatality rate. During both outbreaks we identified some individuals in direct contact with sick patients who never developed symptoms. We aimed to determine whether these individuals were indeed infected with Ebola virus, and how they maintained asymptomatic status. METHODS: Blood was collected from 24 close contacts of symptomatic patients. These asymptomatic individuals were sampled 2, 3, or 4 times during a 1-month period after the first exposure to symptomatic patients. Serum samples were analysed for the presence of Ebola antigens, virus-specific IgM and IgG (by ELISA and western blot), and different cytokines and chemokines. RNA was extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and reverse transcriptase-PCR assays were done to amplify RNA of Ebola virus. PCR products were then sequenced. FINDINGS: 11 of 24 asymptomatic individuals developed both IgM and IgG responses to Ebola antigens, indicating viral infection. Western-blot analysis showed that IgG responses were directed to nucleoprotein and viral protein of 40 kDa. The glycoprotein and viral protein of 24 kDa genes showed no nucleotide differences between symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. Asymptomatic individuals had a strong inflammatory response characterised by high circulating concentrations of cytokines and chemokines. INTERPRETATION: This study showed that asymptomatic, replicative Ebola infection can and does occur in human beings.[/b] The lack of genetic differences between symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals suggest that asymptomatic Ebola infection did not result from viral mutations. Elucidation of the factors related to the genesis of the strong inflammatory response occurring early during the infectious process in these asymptomatic individuals could increase our understanding of the disease. I would not want to be anywhere near a city if this takes off... We will see how Nigeria fares - it's not looking good for them at the present. Here's my long-term concerns with an evolved Ebola pandemic: - In this situation you can expect at least 70% of the population to die of Ebola - The 2008 EMP Commission Report stated up to 90% of Americans could die, not directly due to EMP, but due to loss of critical infrastructure. A pandemic would cause loss of critical infrastructure. 10% survival of 30% Ebola survivors is 3% of the population. 10 million people in the States. - That means over 300 million corpses, many of which carry Ebola for months and most unburied. These corpses will be food for insects and rodents. Insects have been shown to carry types of Ebola. - Mammals have been shown be Ebola carriers - as in bush meat. Asymptotically. - It is unknown how long these natural reservoirs of Ebola will carry the disease, after how many generations. So all that being said, being anywhere around a city after a mass Ebola outbreak is suicide. Hiding out in a safe room won't protect you from insects or rodents who could carry this disease. The best place would have to be quite isolated. Last Edited by Cheyenne on 09/20/2014 04:46 PM 100% Natural Unvaxxed Human Being |

Ebola is not flu. You don't get Ebola by walking down the street, even a busy street. From what we know random people are not being infected (still) by strangers they have had no contact with. How have people been contracting and spreading Ebola? By sharing small, close, dwellings with the sick. By riding in (often overcrowded) taxis with the sick. By personally tending to the sick and by touching dead bodies of their loved ones (whether at home or at funerals). So infection, so far, has come from close contact. Not from people walking down the street or at the market as we would see with influenza. Why in the world, then, would they order everyone to stay inside, in very close quarters, for three days? As ridiculous as it sounds, it might have been better to order everyone outside for three days, and instruct them to sit there with at least six feet of space around themselves instead, regardless of the weather! Lots more people are going to become infected under this scenario. I am not looking forward to seeing the case counts from Sierra Leone in ten, fourteen, days. Plus, where in the world will they put the six other family members who've been fully exposed to the one sick person among them, now that they've been cooped up for three days together? Those people will need to be quarantined. Where? And who will meet their needs? The first thing everybody will do after this shutdown is lifted will be to gather, to move. From the point of view of the virus, this all looks exceptionally advantageous, I would think. Did the virus hire some pricey consultant to think up this hairbrained scheme? "Incubate in small, cozy, surroundings then bam, let it fly." Confused I'm hoping we don't look back on this exercise as one giant amplification event. Of course, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe things will finally move very smoothly on this. All cases will be identified. People exposed will be quarantined somewhere clean and safe. The population will be honest and cooperative. Bodies will be identified and picked up swiftly. The door-to-door trainers will not serve as amplifiers. For once, things in Sierra Leone will go as planned. For once. So I could be wrong. Here's hoping. _________________ This is the third amplification event, IMO. The first was the blocade/quarantine of the West Point neighborhood. The second was the last 3 day lock-down, this will be the third. That being said, I truly believe that the local authorities are just trying to play catch-up, and try to get a controllable situation to hand. We will see unintended consequences here. Dr. Niman was clear from the first that shutting down West Point had no basis in medical/i. e. public health procedure, when there were also cases outside that area. Such is life.
