I wonder how long it is before we start seeing "I'm in quarantine/isolation for exposure to Ebola." threads on here?

For the record, in town today all three cities' newspapers had Ebola in the US as the top headline, for the first time.

I looked back, I think BSZ reported that EV-D68 can't merge with Ebola but that flu can. If flu does merger with Ebola, then we will truly have airborne EBOLA

We would have thousands upon thousands dead, especially in large urban areas. Influenza is the perfect virus. Combined with Ebola would mean social, economic, and human devastation. Having said all that, I have no idea if they are compatible.

That’s the thing about progress; all the word means is “continued movement in the same direction.” If the direction was a bad idea to start with, or if it’s passed the point at which it still made sense, continuing to trudge blindly onward into the gathering dark may not be the best idea in the world. Break out of that mental straitjacket, and the range of possible futures broadens out immeasurably.

The next few weeks are going to be telling.

We know this guy in Dallas exercised all the potential vectors for this disease: vomiting, bodily fluids, air, touch, passing of objects to others (passport etc).

If there's a burst of positives then we are so thoroughly screwed. Those exposed in Dulles - DC and in the aircraft should be exhibiting symptoms by now if he passed this on while he was asymptomatic.

Those exposed in Dallas should be showing symptoms in the next few days.

Incorrect. The next wave of sick people won't be til around 2nd week in Oct. I'm a research nurse and the way that his symptoms are being reported it won't be til then.

Since you work in research, maybe you could answer a question regarding this outbreak alongside H1N1. I know that neither is very widely spread yet but if the two viruses met inside one host, could they....combine? mate? idk what term to use. This is a completely outside my educational background but when I first heard that swine was back with a vengeance, specifically in Texas, my first thought was that it would be terrible for the two to combine and make something even worse.

I am starting to get the feeling the press are kind of free for all.

Almost like that one story that broke the embargo of information empowered others to start reporting what they might have held in the past.

Like one kid took a cookie and no one slapped their hand so everyone else is grabbing.

Might be a turning point in the info we get... leakers and insiders seem to be flowing now.
 Quoting: Tharamis

Yup the floodgates have been open. Rumors are also spreading like wildfire. I have heard that patient zed is doing better and has been upgraded on his hospitalization status. I have also heard more recently that his internal organs were liquefying and he was not expected to live more than 48 hours.

In the absence of believable information from the CDC people will rely on other sources, some of them will be good and others will be outrageously wrong.

They let the information vacuum go on too long and other people filled it. Trust in government spokesmen is diminishing, and rightly so, because they lied to us and omitted truths.

Just thinking about all of this. We keep being told that it won't spread in the U.S. and Canada because we have better higiene and better hospitals.

But what else is better than South Africa?

Subways, buses, Airlines, cabs, you name it. Our transportation systems are on steroids compared to South Africa.

If this gets out in North America it'll make that exponential curve in SA look like a flat line.

The only thing we have in our favor right now is that this family seemed to be very aware of what was going on and trying to nip it in the bud. But that does NOT explain why that guy didn't tell the first hospital he was exposed to Ebola.

It would be EXTREMELY irresponsible for our governments to NOT shut down air travel from these countries right now. I honestly can't believe they haven't done it already.

Talk about law suits. You're an honest hard working citizen traveling the subways to work and the gov't isn't stopping a potential biological weapon being thrown upon it's citizens?

If I were a class action lawyer I'd be frothing at the mouth. The only people, AFAIK, who can shut down air traffic is the Federal Government. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

If people want to go in. That's fine. But they're gonna have to figure their own way out.

They're fucking with my kid's well being now and I'm pissed! This is not a fucking game!

Oh you're worried about the Economy? Trust me, the economy isn't gonna do too damn well when 70% of the people are dead!!!!!!

If he passed through Customs on the 20th, it's been 12 days since that possible exposure event. People could be exhibiting symptoms already, as he started symptoms 9 days after his exposure (allegedly) on the 15 of September.

People exposed on the 23 - 28th could be showing symptoms from now through next week, if they were infected.

Well, thats another thing I've been wondering. The significant amount of successful mutations that this particular strain has supposedly undergone since March seems normally unlikely.

Since it's here, we no longer need to look at Europe.

Say this goes from:
1
to 2 or 4
to 4 or 8
to 8 or 16

And it gets a foothold.

Does that mean that I only have about 30 days left to buy supplies?

 Quoting: Tharamis

The source of the 24th admittance was an alleged CDC whistle blower:

"The patient did not have symptoms when he arrived. But, and this is key and what did not come out at the press conference, the source tells me the patient actually did go to the hospital with symptoms on September 24, 2014. In fact, I assumed I was confused because the press conference said the 26th. I assumed I misheard the source. So I texted the source who called me back and, purported reading from the file, read that the patient arrived in Dallas, TX on the 20th of September, appeared in the emergency room with symptoms on September 24th. The patient was discharged with antibiotics and returned again days later with watery diarrhea and other symptoms, tested for both malaria and Ebola, and put in isolation on the 28th."

[link to www.redstate.com]

Regardless, any infections in Customs or DFW on the 20th likely would be symptomatic at this point.

Those infected during this disputed time of the 23d - 28th chould be showing symptoms from now through next week.

DALLAS) - Two days after he was sent home from a Dallas hospital, the man who is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was seen vomiting on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance.

"His whole family was screaming. He got outside and he was throwing up all over the place," resident Mesud Osmanovic, 21, said on Wednesday, describing the chaotic scene before the man was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday where he is in serious condition.

Dallas parents fearing Ebola remove children from school

[link to www.star-telegram.com]

Parents on Wednesday were removing their children from a Dallas school where a student may have had contact with the Ebola patient diagnosed Tuesday.

A letter to parents of children at L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School, 6929 Town North Drive, says in part:

“This morning, we were made aware that one of our students may have had contact with an individual who was recently diagnosed with the Ebola virus. This student is currently not showing any symptoms and is under close observation by the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department. As a precautionary measure, the student has been advised to stay home from school. Since this student is not presenting any symptoms, there is nothing to suggest that the disease was spread to others, including students and staff.”

Comment: I would.

Re: >>>EBOLA 2014-15 >> Latest News and Updates for MERS, Ebola and other spreading nasties<<<

I saw it reported that he showed up at an ER on the 24th, not the 26th.

Addendum, hundreds of unknowns he exposed and contaminated are now contagious.

We are at "The Stand" Stage.

Patty Cake is the new Ring Around the Rosie.

I say that at any moment because everyone is deifferent and the stories are conflicting of when he started presenting symptoms. Just watch. If no one else by Nov 1st other then his immediate family members., then I will breathe easier lets just leave it at that.

I agree - the take away here is this is a powerful test case for Ebola in the 1st World. Either our demographics, health system, etc is too high a wall for it or...

The problem isn't the HC system. It's the humans in it. We've already seen a comedy of errors with this case, and it's been one day of information. I guarantee you, we are going to find out shit that will make your head spin.

Remember all the steps they had to treat the infectious waste at Emory? One was that article about the accidental spill and what it took to contain it? And then the later they had the issue of no one to haul the waste away and Emory having to buy plastic bins.

And they are a level 4 containment facility. This hospital is not that. I am so worried they are going to screw this up and end up with HCW, technicians, etc. infected.

And yet, our "Wise" leaders are still allowing these people to come into North America.

Makes me wonder what percentage of the population has to be DEAD before they take action!!!!!
