Anonymous Coward User ID: 48279936 United States 03/22/2014 05:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ebola has popped up for about 40 years. It's been around a LOT longer than that, but the virus was identified back then. It's a level 1 bio-hazard and is very deadly. And, it's already been in the United States. In 1989, there was an outbreak in a primate research facility in Reston, Virginia. Fortunately, it didn't jump species...but if it HAD been a strain that was contagious to humans... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41255538 Don't panic over this. Ebola happens. It's happened for decades. It generally happens in African villages with poor sanitation. This outbreak will die out, and in a few years, it'll happen again. Worry when you hear about it in New York, London, Tokyo, or someplace like that. You're stuck in 1914. This is 2014. People travel and people trade (sometimes germs). . |

People travel and people trade (sometimes germs). . There WAS a case where someone was infected with Ebola traveled in a plane. Even with all the recirculated air, no other passengers were infected. Ebola is a very "smart" virus. When the virus uses up a host, they bleed out and THAT is when it gets dangerous. There IS a small risk of it being transmitted via the air, but the real risk is bodily fluids. Like I said, the outbreaks are almost always in crappy little villages with crappier sanitation practices. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 45335654 United States 03/22/2014 06:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just found it at a thrift store and started reading it this week. I had read it when it came out. Scary ass synchronicity. At least it's not Marburg, am I right? Sorry, I've been waiting to say that since I read HotZone for the first time. That book completely freaked me out. I also bought it at a thrift store, and my copy was really dusty. The more I read, the more grossed out I was by the dust all over the book. I remember reading the part about how much Ebola would fit on a period at the end of a sentence, and being afraid of that period. lol I have to laugh when I'm scared. |

I remember reading "The Hot Zone", one of the most gripping and scary books I've ever read, I couldn't put it down. Ebola and Marburg are just about the worst diseases you can get and they spread very fast. |
The Nihilist (OP) User ID: 55462400 Canada 03/22/2014 06:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | possible spread in Liberia. Does Guinea's Ebola extend as far as Monrovia, Liberia? Many thanks to Henrik, who just left a comment on the Le Monde post. He wrote: My daughter is a doctor in Foya, Liberia, close to the border to Guinea. They have had one confirmed ebola death. Also, the disease is reported in Monrovia. I haven't found any Liberian media covering the story yet, and Guinea's own ministry of health website appears to be down. But I'll look further into the Liberian angle. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 55954038 United States 03/22/2014 06:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sierra Leone has some of the worst poverty. This is probably by design. The Evil Satanist New World Order. If this gets going it could probably wipe out hundreds of thousands. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55616859 Doctors without Borders would be the only ones in this area. They are not NWO but the only front line these people would have. Missionaries I know who have been to Sierra Leone say it is very much like parts of the US. For example: [link to www.whiteville.com] For the fourth consecutive year, Columbus County has ranked as the least healthy county in the state. If Ebola makes it to here, it may find familiar conditions. If anyone is interested in visiting scenic Sierra Leone this spring: [link to www.mounthorebumc.com] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 55938584 United States 03/22/2014 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ebola is one of the worst transmitting viruses for being pretty decently lethal. It's only a huge worry for humans if it's over 80% deadly with a large scale spread, like a mutated flu would be similar to the spanish flu today. |

Ebola is a form of viral hemorrhagic fever. [link to en.wikipedia.org] If I remember right the ebola virus is thought to lie dormant in bat guano till it infects some mammal. :) |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] If I remember right the ebola virus is thought to lie dormant in bat guano till it infects some mammal. I recently researched Ebola a little bit for a Microbiology class. It is thought to be a zoonotic (animal borne) virus, but it's natural habitat isn't known. I think it's spread through bats by bite, not quano. |
The Nihilist (OP) User ID: 55462400 Canada 03/22/2014 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just read the UNICEF brief, interesting words. Already we know that caregivers urgently need protective equipment such as hats, masks, goggles, gloves, boots, aprons, and other material such as coats, disinfectant sprays, and, sadly, body bags,” said the UNICEF Representative. He asked medical workers to keep themselves up-to-date with the latest information and to strengthen their cleaning and sanitation regimens. maybe they have no clue what they are dealing with? Also expecting situation to turn towards the negative. link to brief: [link to twitdoc.com] Last Edited by bobman5000 on 03/22/2014 07:43 PM |

How about we demand the governments stop withholding 3 decades of technology to keep power over us so we can get off the planet? See the stars? There's billions of worlds to live on! Also, I've discovered people who wish death on others are the first to lose someone close to them, karma? who knows, but don't do that please. |

Em18966 User ID: 46357440 United States 03/22/2014 07:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ebola is a nasty, nasty virus. It has a relatively long incubation period and can spread far and wide because of this. I realize it requires bodily fluids to spread, but that can be A LOT of things. And if you read the data, the virus was still active 61 days after symptoms ceased in seminal fluid, so it could be STD, too. It's so ugly. |
