The article tries to say that F-bulbs are fine, okay, harmless, etc. because that is what AARP does - follow the party line. I find these EPA recommendations from the article disturbing. As the bulb ages most of the hg turns to solid forms and absorbs into the bulb. IF you break one that is hot, brand new, and the silver tip? You might have a pretty dangerous inhalation problem. Most breaks occur with old, burned out bulbs that are meant for disposal, sittting at room temp. Not much of a hazard there :) Last Edited by TheTruthMonger™ on 03/23/2014 05:58 PM |

Right, Im saying that you dont have to wait 10 minutes to hours to clean up the broken materials. Zinc powder can be used to bind to any microscopic droplets and vacuumed up , preferrably with a hepa filter then the filter trashed |

Among the steps recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency: •Get people and pets out of the room. •Air out the room for at least 10 minutes, and preferably several hours. •Shut off the air-conditioning or heating system. •Wipe up the broken glass and powder, seal them in a container and dispose of them. •Check with your local government about disposal requirements. Some communities require that trashed fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) be taken to a local recycling center found this and have to say: wow! Did you know that? I still do not have F-bulbs in my home (one exception) because even I know: Mercury is not your friend. nice to see it publicized. link: [link to www.aarp.org] Sad day when the light bulbs have HASMAT clean-up instructions. |

How many people are aware of any lurking dangers? most people do not know that heating a Teflon-coated pan will kill a bird in the house. Many do not know that there are fatal inhalation illnesses associated with fake butter flavoring in popcorn. The old bulbs worked and would not fuck you up if a new one broke. They required only common sense to adequatly clean up broken bulb, not a EPA check-list. |

Hey i completely agree The led lights have toxic heavy metals in them too Seems that " increasing efficiency" is directly related to increased environmental and health issues |
