This is a hoax, obviously.

Sure and the lat & long are Diego Garcia, but so what? So very easy to fake.

Sure spells and articulates himself rather well for someone who has been "drugged" and "cannot think clearly."

This report was already vetted here and passed the smell test. Twitter drove the original posts, and it was said his family was informed and didn't buy it. However, you cannot unring the bell.

The picture is black probably because it was taken in a dark place, but the logic of sending the pic was to communicate the exif data including gps, which this guy being a tech would know to do.

Some folks thought the language didn't fit him, but then again, some of us felt the message may have been sent by a proxy on his behalf. The core message, after all, was the gps info.

The only unverifiable bit of info was whether or not his phone. I believe everything else checked out, sufficient to show that a message was posted on that site, with a photo upload that included the exif data so that it could be seen.

The message appeared, i believe, March 18th.

And, no, it is "not easy to fake" the data. You can fake it here or anywhere you pretend to copy/paste it, but not the same as tricking the phone to send that data.

We looked into it on the other thread. The image was manipulated. You can see that in the data. It's likely the GPS coordinates were messed with.

I'd recommend anyone actually read the entire other thread. The image was not manipulated; the data showed that the image was appended to a text message about 3 or 4 minutes after it was taken, which is a reasonable amount of time for the text to have been typed. The adding of the image to the text for sending appears to be an "edit" event, but this was duplicated as normal iPhone 5 dialogue.

Like i said, you cannot UNring the bell. Thousands of people followed the thread here and on twitter, and who knows where else.

and now Malaysia is calling for prayers for possible survivors......

A couple weeks? Are you kidding me? An iPhone 5 (nevertheless one that's used by an IBM businessman who is probably ALWAYS on it) might last 24 hours on a full charge. I have one, brand new, and know about 5 other people that have em too.

yes , do not use it, turn off wifi and bluetooth and put it down , see how long it holds a charge.

also , turn it off with a full charge , see how long it you are able to keep turning it on.....
