Musicals
Anyone on here like musicals? I'm obsessed with them. High school, local theaters, broadway..doesn't matter. I also love old movies with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, etc. I think Broadway is where the real talent is. Hollywood produces so much crap. Of course my husband isn't into musicals, But I'm glad I have my teenagers to go with. They even perform in their high school musicals and I'm such a proud mama.

Re: Musicals
As an occasional serious enthusiast of film, I can say with only of touch of awkward guilty pleasure that I can appreciate the great creativity that has found expression in musicals.

Music, dance, soaring voices in intricate scores, what is not to love.

I will offer a few samples in support of your thread. I hope that is alright.

First, one from Little Shop of Horrors, (a film with classic glp motifs), a nearly perfect musical composition.

You are welcome. Been thinking about this topic for awhile. There is great power in the ways song, choreography and film can juxtapose various themes and feelings into novel arrangements.

As an example, I offer this scene from the film Across the Universe. New meanings are layered on the classic beatles song. Musicals are not all sunshine and pretty flowers.

I like musicals, recently watched Oklahoma (the old one). It was great. Shirley Jones was amazing.

Re: Musicals
Nope, can't stand 'em. Or romances, or animal films, or sports films, or family drama films...or...I should have just said that I only like to watch documentaries...
