It is NOT going to blow, relax OP.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7532892

1000x above normal Helium Gas releases are a sure sign something really big is up with Yellowstone...not saying it will erupt but ...in any other volcano it would be a sure sign of it...and 1000x the normal amount of gas release? That would be about fitting for the type of eruption Yellowstone could deliver..at least 1000x more powerful than any normal volcano around those parts, the continued uplift in that area is also a good sign of up and coming trouble...

1) Vertical Ground Displacement as well as horizontal

2) Gas emissions of Helium 1000x the normal level.

3) Earthquake swarms getting more frequent and larger.

4) Cracks forming in ground surface.

I don't know about you..but this all looks pretty convincing to me that Yellowstone is getting ready to do something big..

I don't believe its going to blow just yet. If anything, a much larger quake in the PNW will happen first. Roads ate going to be a mess out there. Mudslides... and more mudslides...

Not to be a jerk but...

1,000 times the "normal" amount of helium does not equal 1,000 times the impact of a "normal eruption".

For instance, if a DORMANT volcano typically puts out (and this is purely as a simplified, non-realistic example for simplification purposes) 20 parts per billion of helium per hour, to then watch it go to 20,000 parts of helium per billion per hour, does NOT mean that it will suddenly explode with the power of 1,000 "regular volcanoes".

It just means that the output of helium released has increased by 1,000-fold. It also means that, hmmm, activity is increasing in this once-inactive volcano....maybe it is worth watching over the next few years. In all probability, however, it go back to "sleep" after a few, small belches and rumbles.

If the starting reading was almost zero, it really doesn't take much of an increase in helium output to reach that thousand-fold increase.

The two are not directly related...at all.

If anything bothers me about Yellowstone, it is the ground displacement, as this has a direct correlation with magma volume and relocation.

It would be best if there were several, smaller releases of material than one, grand event.

Weren't they (the petrol companies) considering boring there for reserves?

Could end up being a trigger, or a saving release valve.

Perhaps this activity is a cover story to find out what is really going on out there, under the park.

South. the ash will reamain in the skies for years - if you can get south of the equator your chances of survival are much greater.

You need to go as far as 5000-10,000KM away from Yellowstone, because if it explodes, the ash itself could travel thousands of KM via the wind. Wherever possible, camp at the highest altitude you can find, to get as much clean air and sunlight as possible, because once the thing explodes, all low lying areas, especially the ones nearby, will be covered with ashes. People, plants and animals will die due to lack of oxygen and no sunlight. The ashes will be so thick, it will cover the whole skies that the sun won't be able to penetrate through. All low lying areas will be in 'darkness' for months, if not years. Sickness will soon follow, and then as usual, death.

From Idaho you could head straight west toward Burns Oregon on Hwy 20, then south on 395 to Lakeview then west again to Klamath Falls. Keep going west toward Grants Pass, it's a good area.

The BIG FREEZE from the worldwide volcanic ash cloud will not happen immediately. If you travel toward the west for the first leg of your trip, you stay upwind of the ash cloud which will take months if not a full year to spread throughout the world atmosphere. Later you may decide to go south but frankly, it sounds dangerous in the extreme. I would rather chance the cold for the first year and wait for the die-off.

During the initial crossing of the native populations into North America, they travelled along the coast as the rest of the continent was under a mile thick layer of ice. The ocean provided a slight moderating of temperature as well as an easy source of food and a more open footpath. They were survivors and knew what they were doing.

Starvation will kill a large percentage of the world's population within the first year. Those who are left will form bands and tribes for protection and hunting, eventually settling into an agrarian society.

Then the illuminuts will come out of their underground shelters and try to control everything again, lol.

The man makes the final decision.

Your plan is more likely the frying pan into the fire of an earthquake, tsunami, volcano, nuke zone anyhow.

Just stay put or do what his protective instincts say is most logical once you give him your feelings.

jet stream will take the ash east across the plains
 Quoting: Founders Fan

Eventually it will go all the way around the World and come back around. Historically, take a look at the St. Helens eruption of 1980. Just about this time of year too, mid-April or so. They tracked the ash plume, and it rode the Jet Stream all the way around the World.Of course, it was dispersed by wind and brought to earth by rain but enough survived to enable the scientists to track its' return back to St. Helens.

Depending upon where you are located, it seems like the logical direction to go would be north or northwest (or, like the Hitchcock movie, "North by Northwest") to get out of the direct path. But the biggest danger would be the "nuclear winter", wherein the ash blocks the sun, nothing grows, and everyone starves. No matter WHERE you live.

I did not mean literally that the correlation between the gas amounts and the explosive power were connected, i was referring to an article about this i read but in the article it said that if Yellowstone had a large explosive eruption it would be 2,000 times bigger than the Mt. St. Helens eruption...so sorry for the mix up...but there is something afoot there and i don't like it that not much is being said about it...after all...some people on here are correct that a large eruption there could put us into another ice age..for which we are long overdue anyways...as for everyone dying..nah...lots of people know how to survive..if the caveman could do it ..so can we.

Look, this question isn't about the short term. When Yellowstone blows it takes out the WHOLE Northern Hemisphere. You want to survive you have to get into the SOUTHERN Hemisphere.

Period.

Now, do you want to do that now or later?

Your right. Southern hemisphere would be best. It is always safe in the doom movies.
Africa usually survives too.

If you believe in the Bible, then you know that it doesn't end this way. So, Yellowstone is not a major player in end-time events. You need to keep an eye on Israel and what happens over there.

OP is in southern Idaho, and thinks they will survive the eruption??

Not happening.

Even if you did, you could not get anywhere by car. The ash would clog the filters, and engines would shut down real fast.

Not to mention the ash would be a few feet deep, at least.

I wouldn't even worry about it. There's not much you could do.

The area north of Grand Rapids, Michigan is where I would go. It's cold in winter but summer is awesome.

It's where Kid Rock spends his summers.

Plenty of fresh water lakes with lots of good fishing. Still a mostly agricultural area so YOU WONT STARVE in a SHTF scenario.

The area is one of the best kept survivalist secrets out there. So is the mountain area of West Virginia. Not the plain area along the Ohio though.
