The math isn't as important as the process and is supposed to encourage the student to express himself. I get what the problem is asking. My issue, however, is how teacher will mark a student down for "not showing work", even if they have the right answer. My oldest is like my husband - can do a lot in his head, gets the right answers, but has trouble showing it exactly how the teacher wants it shown. It's crap to mark points off for that. Teach math, read the literary classics, learn some grammar, some science, sociology, and history, then get working on what you love. That should be the focus instead of training kids in government mandated "facts" using a government mandated method, so they can go to a college and get enslaved into government owned debt to go get a boring job they hate for 15 years to pay off that debt. Terrible enslavement cycle we've created. RAGE |
*<3sugar&spice<3* (OP) User ID: 55550055 United States 04/01/2014 09:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If anything the system goal should be to discover what a student's passion is and then taylor their education around that. Start that process earlier and the need for a college education, or the amount of time and money needed to be spent on college would be much less. Knock the basics out then get them going on something they want to do. Quoting: The Årtist Obviously my idea doesn't start in the 2nd grade but it should definitely be in the high school arena. She also agreed that she doesn't have enough time to spend on a subject before she has to move on. She says they don't demand she move so quickly, but there is so much stuff to go thru that she has to move quickly. Granted my son is only in kindergarten. I'm just lost to the fact that the childrens test scores are the only thing that the school department knows. They don't care that they can't focus from all the stuff being jammed down their throats. The teacher spend one week on a bunch of problems and subjects. Then gives a test! After the test no matter how the child has scored, they move on. She told me she is worried because they will be expected to know all these things going into 1st grade. Not making excuses for the kids. Yes, some of them are subject to shity parents. Most are encouraged at home, but it's just not enough sometimes. Married to a ginger |
