They're banned thanks to the Hughes Amendment of FOPA '86, so you're only allowed to buy those registered with BATFE prior to May 19, 1986. In other words, limited supply = high prices.

No. Ffl by itself doesn't permit dealing with nfa weapons. You have to either be a class 3 nfa dealer or a class 2 manufacturer, each of which is somewhat similar to the process of acquiring a regular ffl, just more involved.

Being a class 3 dealer would not permit you to 'create' new nfa weapons, even if it was by converting an already existing non-nfa weapon. Being a class 2 manufacturer, though, would allow you to create short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns (aows), suppressors, you name it. Interestingly, last time I looked into it, to acquire a class 2 license was not much more involved than class 3. Course that was years ago.

Not a type 1 FFL.

You can only manufacture full auto if you are selling to city/state/fed governments...

The fail in OP's post is like a vast plain stretching to the horizon where thunder clouds of stupidity rain ignorance down upon the fields and lightning bolts of hubris threaten.

First you seem to be under the impression the you need an FFL to own a select fire firearm. That is not the case. You just need to fill out the Class III NFA paper work and pay the $200 for the transfer stamp. The FFL acts as the intermediary between the buyer and seller and ensures that the paper work is correct and complete.

Second you can not become an FFL unless you legitimately intend to become a firearms broker or manufacturer. Sometimes gunsmiths get an FFL to facilitate certain aspects of their business. At a minimum, you need to show that you will set up a business as an FFL agent for unrelated parties. You will need to demonstrate the funding and basic business knowledge to get an ATF agent to sign off on your business plan. If, at the end of three years, you did not materially facilitate lawful firearms transfer for non-related parties, your license will not be renewed.

Next, no more legal select fire weapons are being produced for sale to civilians. So it is illegal and a bad idea.

In a sporting context, they are a waste of ammo and money and not that fun after the first couple days. Learning to hunt, practicing long range marksmanship, competing in three gun competitions or taking tactical classes (think room to room building clearing scenarios like a SWAT team or Army Ranger in Fallujah) is a lot more sustainable enjoyment.
