Maryland has had tornadoes

I saw one form near my apartment

Was crazy

But it quickly went away

I can't imagine seeing a Midwest one
 Quoting: Astral Goat

Last year in (I believe) November, I was about an hour's drive away from am EF3 that tore into a town. The sirens were actually going off here in town as the winds were getting intense when the county northwest of me was under a warning. I'd never heard tornado sirens in person. It's quite eerie..

In jefferson city Mo. right now, looks like just south of me in Rolla they're getting 2" hail and HEAVY rain with 60 mph wind gusts. St. Louisians need to watch out this evening, going to get bad!

Re: POSS. SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK Today FOR PARTS OF MO, AR, OK, TX, TN, MS, KY, IL, IN, OH. MULTIPLE REPORTS OF TORNADOES, DAMAGE
The latest thinking from the National Weather Service folks has not changed much since this morning. A dryline is expected to push towards the I-35 corridor by early this afternoon eventually bisecting the DFW Metroplex and stretching south/southwest along I-35 to just west of Waco, Temple and Killeen. Thunderstorms are expected to fire up this afternoon around 4pm-ish along and east of the dryline. Below are a few high resolution forecast model graphics which show storms initiating pretty much right on top of Dallas county at around 4pm…with additional storms firing up across Collin, Fannin and Hunt counties. Keep in mind, this is just what a computer thinks, so reality could be slightly different. But it will give you a good idea as to the favorable locations for storm development this afternoon. The main threats with any storms that develop will be large hail, dangerous lightning and winds gusting to 50mph or more. Local street flooding could also be an issue under some of the stronger cells. These storms will also be moving quite fast, so you’ll need to pay special attention to the weather this afternoon and be prepared to seek shelter immediately if a Warning is issued for your location.

They also said some of this could push west with lines running from Dallas to Kansas city if that updraft continues, not to mention areas getting sunlight now could get nastiness later.
Its almost as dark as night here right now.

I understand that Texas, Oklahoma and Ohio is going to experience severe weather too, but I just mentioned the states that are going to experience the elevated likelihood of severe weather occurring in that specific area. That is why I just gave the "surrounding areas" description. Don't get me wrong, I am not excluding them because I don't think it will happen...

hey i live in kentucky in a mobile home and i am dead set to be hit within 2 hours time....
No car to get me or my kids to safety if it gets bad...spouse had to drive it to work.
and no public shelter to go to even if it did have a way.

So i have placed car straps under my mobile home that is anchored to concrete...i will tie my children under the mobile home with the car straps if it gets to bad.

i am pretty sure the frame will remain in place as its solid Steele.

Go to your nearest neighbor that has a basement or a storm cellar. Go now before the weather gets bad, and ask them if you can hunker down with them until the storm passes.

While that is literally THE last line of protection against an oncoming tornado, being exposed outside when it is coming at you is a terrible idea.

To the AC who was talking about tying his kids to underneath the car or whatever it was you said, if you are trolling, don't. There are people out there who DON'T have protection of any kind. Though it too is not a good idea, in a way, you are better getting in your vehicle and driving away from the tornado (if you have sufficient time to do so and know it is coming). I've a friend in Missouri who lives in a mobile home and has literally NO protection whatsoever if a tornado were to come at her. She pays close attention to the weather for that day, and if it calls for tornadoes, she will actually GO somewhere that offers protection. A library, the mall. Those are far better choices than staying where she is...
