YELLOWSTONE UPDATES (2014) : ... Strange things happening @ Yellowstone...

Has anyone seen the Toyota commercial featuring a bored (almost zombie-like) family staring at Old Faithful on their computer, and then the Muppets bust in and sing a song about going to see it in-person? I just saw it yesterday for the first time and found the timing to be curious. When I looked it up, it looks like it just debuted a couple weeks ago.

Hey Elfsong, many of us truly appreciate all your input on this topic. This guy is an AC and has obviously targeted you because you have been beneficial to the thread. It is difficult to understand why people do such things, but it is a fact here at GLP, and I am sure life in general. Please consider hanging out a while longer.

Thank you Vesper23, there are a few of you, like E. Morgan and AC 54605123 that are polite and friends. I do not like to call a Spade a Spade, but there are those that act like bullies. Since they can not come up with Scientific Information that is logical and accurate, they must degrade those that do. I have had to deal with this ever since I was in High School and in the Science Club.
They enjoy spreading panic and mis-information.

Such a coincidence tho' isn't it that the live cam goes down when this is the roughest and most action we have ever seen from Yellowstone and most of the action surrounding "Old Faithful" .......or is it a coincidence......

Anna Kelbert and Gary Egbert — have used magnetotellurics to reveal that large volumes of partially molten rock and potentially superheated water (hydrothermal systems) snake west underneath the crust and into the uppermost mantle west of Yellowstone. This molten trail continues westward along much of the Snake River Plain in Idaho and into Oregon. These findings complicate the expectation that a nearly vertical magma plume lies directly under the present day Yellowstone supervolcano, which was what is anticipated from a hotspot. That area with the 3 recent earthquakes in South Central Idaho is famous for being a spot where two river branches come together. One is hot the other is cold. Campers wash their dishes in the hot water and rinse in the cold, or so their line goes...

Idaho and Montana have many hot springs, many springs of all sorts. Like Old Faithful, they have tempers, sometimes roaring and sometimes disappearing for long periods. Water sources often appear some distance one year from where they were the last. Nobody really knows about the underground waterways -- from living here, I can assure you they are real and if you want to find water, get ducks. They can smell where the spring has moved and will dig and dig the spring (soft) ground until they create a pool.

I find it interesting that we have been seeing earthquakes in Idaho. Challis Idaho is about 250 miles from Yellowstone. Challis Idaho is also home to fault-lines and a volcanic field.

The question most people have regarding the seismic activity over the last two weeks here near Challis and over in Yellowstone is this a precursor of a bigger event? Experts agree that the current activity doesn't necessarily predict a much larger event but doesn't mean one is not possible.

WHY are so many seismograms offline???????

The seismograms have stopped recording, but, this is the nearby activity SO FAR TODAY which have always affected the Yellowstone readings, some in nearby States (only Idaho, so far) :

2014-04-15 15:41:32 Magnitude: 1.2, Yellowstone National Park 4.1 km depth
2014-04-15 01:10:11 Magnitude: 1.3, Yellowstone National Park 2.7 km depth

The first is just miles NW of Norris River.
The second is just miles SW of West Thumb, near the SE shore of Shoshone Lake, OR about 10 miles SOUTH OF OLD FAITHFUL

Other nearby quakes today:
