The only possibility for it being snow is that it was blown off the mountain. I've experienced it before where there is no actual snow, but rather wind carried snow off the peaks. I forget the technical name for it... But IMHO, it is either wind blown snow or ash...those are the only two choices Drifting snow or "spin drift". Interesting stuff
