ok i know the geyser views a long time , but this one from today,...and after a shake... so high... i never saw, or can not recall... [ link to tinypic.com] mostly they go up high as a tree or a bit more, but did you see the one above...its 10 trees high... Quoting: told ya That picture is showing mostly steam, since it was not very windy today and heat rises it appears much larger than it really is. The actual plume of liquid water is not as large as that picture shows. If you want to see the largest geyser in the park you will want to look at Steamboat. When it has violent eruptions it can shoot liquid water up to 300' feet in the air. See link below. [ link to www.nps.gov] I'd forgotten about Steamboat - could that be it - having a violent reaction behind the trees? There is also a connection between quakes and geothermal areas. The whole planet is ringing with Chile and should be considered in the equation. The local maori here, in Rotorua, who actually live on the geothermal field have told me the field changes when big quakes happen or are about to happen. Don't forget - there is also quakes happening in Yellowstone area at the moment, maybe from geothermal stuff but everything is connected in some way. Edit to say - this field has got far more active in the three hours I have been watching it. I do know its steam but there is a lot more of it than earlier and in more spots.
