...

Yes, that is normal. The first big one was much more spectacular
 Quoting: Keep Smiling

Fuck yes it was!! One of THE COOLEST things ive ever witnessed. I was just letting the trolls know we understand whats normal and whats out of character, is all. lol
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55538379

cheers oops sorry lol
 Quoting: Keep Smiling

No sweat smiley. We are def being visited by the 'i should state the obvious info that i found on the internet to let these people know that what they have been seeing live with their own two eyes is incorrect...because i read it on wiki.' trolls. --

Makes me giggle. No one here is saying doom... we are simply discussing what we are seeing.... and here come the gasbags with their 2 cents. Gotta love it. lmfao
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55538379

There is 2 sides to a debate & discussion Sweetheart...You have had over 10 pages to your doom scenarios and discussions....How about letting people who know what's going on have a say instead of bashing and calling them...

I told you it was because of more snow melt but did I bash you at first?? Did I call you names in my first post about the snow melt??? NO, I didn't. Have a bit of respect for other people coming on the thread and they will respect you..Let them give there advice and scenarios to what they think it is...Works both ways Sweetheart

You lot DO realise you're watching Yellowstone and her Geysers doing their usual every day thing right?

That nothing out of the ordinary is going on at Yellowstone.

..I'd be more worried about those harmonic tremors under LA right now if I were some kind of seismic expert at the British Geological Survey or something..... ;)

ok i know the geyser views a long time , but this one from today,...and after a shake... so high... i never saw, or can not recall...

[link to tinypic.com]

mostly they go up high as a tree or a bit more, but did you see the one above...its 10 trees high...
 Quoting: told ya

That picture is showing mostly steam, since it was not very windy today and heat rises it appears much larger than it really is. The actual plume of liquid water is not as large as that picture shows.

If you want to see the largest geyser in the park you will want to look at Steamboat. When it has violent eruptions it can shoot liquid water up to 300' feet in the air. See link below.

[link to www.nps.gov]
 Quoting: Sol Neman

I'd forgotten about Steamboat - could that be it - having a violent reaction behind the trees?

There is also a connection between quakes and geothermal areas. The whole planet is ringing with Chile and should be considered in the equation. The local maori here, in Rotorua, who actually live on the geothermal field have told me the field changes when big quakes happen or are about to happen. Don't forget - there is also quakes happening in Yellowstone area at the moment, maybe from geothermal stuff but everything is connected in some way.

Edit to say - this field has got far more active in the three hours I have been watching it. I do know its steam but there is a lot more of it than earlier and in more spots.

Sol, don't waste your time mate...You try and help them by telling the TRUTH about what is going on and they don't want to listen and give ya grief instead...

Leave them to there doomalicious thread and take your well educated self to another thread where you may be appreciated instead of being terrorized on here where the know it alls know EVERYTHING about Yellowstone...

LOL. WTF is wrong with you? did your parent not love you enough? i mean really... were you here this morning watching the cams bounce up and down... geyser began to erupt crazy high (not OF) and the EQ cams in CA were logging EQ's at the same exact times. Are you still not understanding why we are all here watching and discussing? No one said doom you fuckin dense pricks. lol so fucking funny.5a
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55538379

Was I watching the Cam this Morning??? No I wasn't, WHY?? Because I know what the geysers do and what the cam does with a bit of wind....

Listen love, you can not educate me with anything that I already don't know about Yellowstone. I have one of the biggest threads on here about Yellowstone and I always use to think doom every time a quake happened or wind showed up on the seismographs, UNTIL I educated myself by reading and learning from others who tried telling me it was this & that. I was like you yeah but I learnt from others who knew things....

I came on this thread and told you it was snow melt that is causing bigger eruptions of steam and that is the truth, ok, you don't have to believe me..but at least listen to someone who is saying something and educate yourself to the possibilities to what it could be...Like I said, I didn't bash anyone, never called anyone..Just told the truth and you got your snake tongue out...If you want to learn and have a discussion, let people in properly and HAVE A DISCUSSION, don't diss them or call them shills just because they say this and that...Instead, Ask questions and you may get answers that surprise you...

I understand completely why you are watching. I literally live within the kill zone of Yellowstone so I keep a rather close eye on it. Animals in mass exodus leaving the park are alarming, elevated gas levels are alarming, earthquake swarms of larger magnitudes are alarming. Geysers that have always steamed and a camera that always shakes is not that alarming.

This morning at sunrise the temperature was 13*F and did not get above freezing until after 12PM local time. The water on average is 200*F and the steam temperature is 350*F. Due to the vast differences in ambient air temperature and water/steam temperatures you see a lot of steam coming out of the ground. If you get a chance, next time it drops below zero in your area, take a cup of boiling water outside and toss it into the air. Due to temperature difference of the water and air you see a bunch of steam form.

As far as the camera shaking. The wind speed this morning was sustained at roughly 10 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph later in the day. With that being said, the tree that the camera is mounted to is a lodge pole pine that is rather tall but not very large in diameter so it does not take very much wind speed at all to get them to sway. In addition to that, because the camera is zoomed in quite a bit during the close ups the swaying appears to be a lot more severe than it actually is. Think of when you use binoculars and zoom way in on a object, even the slightest movement drastically changes your sight picture.

[link to forecast.weather.gov]

Last thing, when 3000-4500 gallons of water are forced out of the ground under high pressure in less than 5 minutes it tends to shake the ground a bit, if you had ever actually visited the park you would know that, and the seismographs that are set up in the park are extremely sensitive. They can pick up the vibrations of a human walking, so of course you will see the geyser going off register on the seismographs.

Have a good evening.

I was always an unusual girl. My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean... And if I said I didn't plan for it to turn out this way I'd be lying...
Because I was born to be the other woman. Who belonged to no one, who belonged to everyone. Who had nothing, who wanted everything, with a fire for every experience and an obsession for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn't even talk about it,and pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me.

I was less than 40 miles from Pinatubo when it erupted. You never want to wish this stuff on anyone!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14707721

That would have been terrifying.

I don't think anyone wants anything bad to happen - its a case of watching unpredictable mother nature and marvelling at it - without wishing doom - if that makes sense

You gotta be desperate for doom to be a yellowstonetard.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56008444

Actually Yellowstone has the capacity to cause a catastrophe of a nature previously unseen in human history. The effects would be global, causing a mass extinction and the death of most humans on Earth due to agricultural and ecologicalfailure. The most frightening thing about it is that it is past due to erupt and has actually been showing signs of an imminent eruption since first being observed by Europeans. 400 years is only .00067% of the 600,000 thousand year period, and it's overdue by 40,000 years. 4 tribes of Indians fled the area over 300 years ago when the indigenous bison fled, leaving only a small band of Shesonies called Sheepeaters. Archaeologists found evidence of extensive continuous human settlement of the area going back 12,000 years including several tribes, yet by the time whites arrived only a tiny band of indians remained in permanent residence who told of a time before geysers began to erupt and mineral springs killed most of the fish .[ they left after it became active]Indians are superstitious about the geysers.Yellowstone is an active long period supervolcano and it could erupt any minute/hour/day/week.

That's all you can rebut?

I was referring to the seismographs in YNP.

The quake cam you were viewing in LA was more likely showing one of the 98 earthquakes in California today, or perhaps the many large aftershocks in Chile that have been occurring the last two days. I guess you were too busy watching a webcam swaying in the wind to notice those other factors.

Ok, possible dumb question but who is in control of the camera, I assume remote by park rangers?
