so,

no one is willing to explain the 09:27 UTC quake

how about the 19:22 harmonic tremor

[link to quake.utah.edu]

the higher the helicorder setting the more can be learned

do you think that an EQ event at 09:27 was recorded in the Park?

what is the trace at 19:22?

this is a great calibration day

was there an EQ at Yellowstone today?

yes.

[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

is it recorded?

yes.

[link to quake.utah.edu]

was another EQ recorded today at Yellowstone

yes.

[link to quake.utah.edu]

what is the difference

both are classic EQ signatures

one at 09:27 UTC

also recorded a classic harmonic tremor at 19:21 UTC

no "POPS" recorded

Quoting from another thread ( Thread: Yellowstone Caldera - Hydro-Thermal Super Volcanic Eruption 2014 -update 10/07/14 - Eruption Drills, Magmatic Evolution & USGS Data Cover Up (Page 42) ):

Watch this timelapse from yesterday at Electric Peak.

Switch it to fullscreen, 480p and don't skip till you've seen what happens to the entire landscape after 1 min 20 secs into the video.

My own eyes don't know how to comprehend what is happening...

Ideas?

i remember when e19 was erupting in Iceland, the cams were making that same wobbly motion, much more pronounced obviously, but I think it's an electromagnetic effect from the nearness of the magma to the cam

This could very well be why it's doing that... After all, it's called "ELECTRIC Peak" for a reason. Lots of strange atmosphere there, because of what's beneath it!

Dare I coin a new word for convenience? Because I'd propose that what's happening at Electric Peak is: "ElectroMAGMAtism".

Look at the foreground and don't blink, the movement is that fast. It starts at about 1:20 and happens more than once. You see it shift up and then shift back down. It's not a slow continual rise but rather incidents of up and down.

Okay.

So, the 9:27 quake was felt stronger at Madison River [link to www.seis.utah.edu] which has been very active.

I tried to find the link to an article I read today about magma types, and Madison River was noted. I thought I bookmarked it.

I looked through the park and found no other trace quite so large, yet, have not looked outside the park as yet.

I suspect whatever happened, happened nearby, and since it had no precursor, I venture to say it was an EQ.

Any signature like that should be an EQ.

As for 19:22. -and all of the other similar waves- I believe those are classified as 'spasmodic bursts'.

They start small, build up to an explosive type of event, then slowly fade away...sometimes continuing longer than the beginning. I have read many different explanations for these bursts, but they all involve the flow of magma which are laden with gas.

One of the reports I read explained the release of gasses from the magma once the pressures upon it have abated, allowing the gasses to seep out. And, I have read about larger channels where the magma is not completely filling the chamber, so gasses accumulate.

In super-heated environments, the accumulated gasses with burst/explode.

If you look at 11:12, this may actually appear to have an echo effect, meaning, rumble, quake, wane, what looks like another quake, and fade out. Yet, could this mean an event, such as the dislocation of rock or heavy debris, first cracking, then breaking off, as magma is passing through in a narrow passage?

If you look at 14:37, that possibly looks like to discharges of gas, pause, and echo before fade out.

Madison River recorded it =and all other events- larger, except the one 19:20: [link to www.seis.utah.edu]

The event at 19:20 recorded earlier at Norris, but appears to have occurred somewhere else.

It was recorded more as a tremor at Grizzly Lake, Utah [link to www.quake.utah.edu]

The only Earthquakes recorded anywhere else close to that time are these:

Mag 0.3 - 6km SSE of Ahtanum, Washington
2014-05-02 19:19:38 UTC
46.506°N 120.587°W
Depth 16.6km
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

How it would have been felt in the Park seems odd.

That was a VERY MINOR Quake, as are the next two.

Mag 1.3 - 10km E of Temecula, California
2014-05-02 19:17:37 UTC
Depth 16.4 km
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

Mag 1.2 - 52km ENE of Healy, Alaska
2014-05-02 19:13:35 UTC
Depth 38.5 km
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

THIS WAS THE EVENT REGISTERED IN THE PARK AT 19:20

Mag 5.2 - 29 km SE of Hidalgotitlan, Mexico
2014-05-02 19:08:23 UTC
Depth 150.8 km
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

It was rather strong, and far away and deep enough to take some twelve minutes to arrive...which is somewhat long, but I'd have to study it.

Just something possibly silly, but look at this data:
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

It pretty much looks like a circle up there in the NW, with an extension to the NE pushing against it.

It's the only place in the world with such a regional circle. I wonder how that translates deep inside the Earth, where everything is so much closer.

And the southern part of Alaska looks like it's soon to break apart.

EDIT:

When I just expanded the Map, I then saw it was not just the NW.
